From notes

Appearance: Very dark brown approaching black. Bit of foam with lots of lace. Might as well be coffee.

Smell: I can smell this from 2 feet away with another beer in between. Vanilla and sweet, sugary, toasty malt.

Taste: Vanilla like crazy, smooth like chocolate milk. Malty with no obvious hops or alcohol. Tastes like it smells, which is fantastic.

Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy - did I mention chocolate milk?

Holy moly that's good.

Appearance is very dark brown with a small, tight off-white head that leaves very light lace.

Smell is soft, chocolate and vanilla, with the vanilla really coming out more as it warms.

Taste is coffee, vanilla and caramel, more acrid then sweet, alcoholic but not hot, with a lingering bitter finish and slightly chocolate aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is creamy and dry, but it leaves a thick coating on the teeth.

Drinkability is not bad, a decent taste but heavy on the belly and to thick (tannin like) on the mouth to want more then one.

Lompoc calls this their flagship beer – an odd call for a winter seasonal, especially when their regular lineup presents so many better offerings. The essential porter driving this beer is not over-powerful, but is able to uphold a festive vanilla adornment. The flavor touches upon mint and (I swear) baby aspirin (from Amarillo hops?). The body is ruby-black with a casual aroma that could pass for cherry cola.

A curious specimen with a flourish of spice to compliment the holiday season. The lack of lace and flat mouthfeel may be attributed to a soapy pint glass.
