On-tap at NXNW, served in a snifter.
A welcome sight to see a Berliner Weiss in the German-rich area that is Austin and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. It's a shame they don't crop up more frequently. North By's version sports a thin shroud of beige foam atop a mostly clear, golden-yellow straw body. The aroma is that of a pleasing mineral graininess backed by a hint of tart lemon zest and herbal hops.
The flavor stays true to the style, as the lactic notes add a pinch of tart sourness while keeping the beer refreshing and light on the palate. A bit more grain huskiness than I prefer, but the citrus note does well to mask it. Mouthfeel is uber-crisp and light on the tongue--made for a great pairing with the salad. Overall, a solid example of the Berliner Weisse style from NXNW. I will definitely try to revisit this one before it's retired for the season, and urge you to do so as well.
