Another crisp farmhouse saison from oxbow, but this one with a subtle smokey taste. Not in the smoked beer campfire sense. More suave. This could be a good day drinking and grilling beer.

On tap at the Dive Bar. "Subtle smoke" almost scared me off but that didn't stop me. The smoke was present but never dominate. It added a nice back flavor to a pleasant Farmhouse.

On tap at Oxbow in Portland. Served in a taster. Mostly clear orange body. Big white head with great retention. Smells quite smokey, even though it says subtle smoke on the menu. A little meaty and dominates the aroma. Just a bit of yeast behind it. Taste is a little less dominated, but still has strong smoke. Some doughy malts and a touch of yeast in the finish. Medium body. Medium low carbonation. Not my thing, really.

Half pint on tap at the brewery's tasting room in Portland, Maine.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy straw with a short white head.

Aroma: Slight smoky aroma along with spices and some grassy hops.

Taste: This beer has a nice smoky character that lingers just long enough on the palate. The spices and grassy hops are also there. Not a huge smoky taste, but enough that it's a great accent.

Mouthfeel: Pretty light and summery.

Overall: Well-executed stab at a smoky saison. Good for a smoky daytime option.

Dive Bar patio full pints and sun. The best beer bar.

A- Pours from the tap with a medium golden hue and a one finger fluffy white cap. A few spots of lace here and there from the remaining medium belt.

S- Oxbow house yeast with pale fruits, spice and herbal tones. Pale Belgian base grain as well as a hint of smoke. Apple, pear, orange peel, pink pepper and coriander hints.

T- Oxbow native flavors up front leading to a lingering woody campfire smokiness in the finish; the level of smoked malts plays well with the bright yeast. That shiny farmhouse yeast drops notes of lemon zest, pepper, coriander, orange peel, bread and apple/pear esters. Herbal and spicy throughout.

MF- Zesty and crisp light body with a semi-watery but appropriately highly carbonated body. Small amount of spicy bitterness in the finish.

Golden Saison with a nice lingering smoked malty tone. I never thought of this combo but here it is done quite well with a transition from bright Belgian yeast to smoked logs.
