500ml at home with Lisa

Oak forward, nice white wine notes, heavy oak, a mineralic almost salinity. Nicely balanced, really grew on me as it warmed and I got used to it. Reminds me of many Side Project saisons, obviously a compliment.

this is textbook saison, and the kind i like to drink, interesting and delicate, unique but also respectful of tradition, and overall another world class beer from oxbow. it has some time on it now, but is drinking like fresh beer to me, the wild side still new and not done developing, and the hops still fresh and highly aromatic, really sexy beer here. pale washed out yellow color, really light, with a rapidly rising white foamy head with great permanence. aroma here of fresh hops, light citrus, and pale cereal grains, rustic and soft, and then the yeast, which smells more bretty and wild than belgian or cultured, but there are elements of both, fruity like unripe strawberry and nectarine, white wine sharpness, my mouth waters. the flavor is as good as the nose, super balanced among all the elements, but so distinct for being familiar, if that makes sense. the hop profile is awesome, really juicy and clean, no bitterness at all, and quite tropical. the yeast is also not overpowering, but very farmy and drying this beer out to the highest degree. the malt is probably the least influential ingredient, but it has a nice fluffy feel to it, and is a cool platform. the carbonation is explosive, frantic, dancing and singing, amazingly lively, super cool. a gentle sweet oak note runs through this, but it doesnt make the beer heavy or mellow, it has a youthful exuberance about it that the wood does not dampen. i only get to drink oxbow beers once in a great while, and i always appreciate them so much. they have to be one of the best producers in the country of this type of thing, and this is a new highpoint for me. so darn good!

Lemon lime. Great carb. Great balance. Light crackery body. Smooth mouthfeel throughout and balanced carbonation on the tongue. Minimal funk. Very clean lemon and lime flavors.

375ml bottle sealed with red unbranded pressure cap.

poured into prairie stemmed Dino flute.

Appearance: Yellow body with thin white cap that quickly dissipates to a thin ring around the glass.

Smell: Bright citrus and earthy brett funk.

Taste: Moderate sourness; 4.5 out of 10. Very citrusy and acetic; mostly lemon and a hint of green apples. Earthy and musty brett funk with some dry oak notes. Lingering citrus in the finish. Not overly complex, but very tasty.

Mouthfeel: medium body with low carbonation. Nice dryness in this beer; I would say it is a little better than semidry.

Overall: Another really nice barrel aged saison by Oxbow. Price point is a little high for these barrel aged oxbow beers (approximately $18 for a 375ml bottle), but they are always tasty and of high quality. So I am always willing to splurge on at least one bottle that I have tried.

2015 date

A: Pours a clear amber. Small fizzy white head that disappears instantly. No lacing.

S: Lightly grassy and citrusy. Some sweet graininess in there too.

T: Hmph. A little oak up front with some grassy hops. Hit of lemon peel follows, providing a tart kick. Some soft grainy sweetness into the finish. Aftertaste is light citrus rind mixed with some...white wine?

M: Medium bodied, lightly tart. Crisp.

O: Very nice saison. A little tartness, some soft graininess and a crisp aftertaste makes for exceptional drinkability. Well done.

Lemon, buttery Brett and a nice tingle of white wine. Pours a bright cider yellow and with very little carb. A bit too flat and more of an acidic bite than I prefer but overall a very pleasant saison. Not a sour punch by any stretch but the tartness flirts with heavy acidity in the finish. One of the best beers I've had from Oxbow. Wine barrel notes help this beer a lot.

This is absolutely incredible. Pretty much flawless in terms of oak, acidity, funk. I think it's peaking fresh right out of the bottle. It would be interesting to age but I love it right now. Wish I had more.
