another exquisite beer from oxbow, this one in collaboration with jester king. a couple of the best getting together. its a funky tart saison, on the lighter side, brewed with muscat grape, and aged in red wine vessels. its cool because as evolved as the yeast is here, and as obvious as the wood ageing is, its also got a cool freshness, the grapes and the tang in here make it seem kind of young and new and bright, so it ends up giving us the best of both worlds there. golden and delicate looking, glassy shine, with a short white head on it. red wine and funk in the nose, its neat that its got white grapes in it but is aged in red wine oak, you can really appreciate both in here. usually i am a little wary of muscat grapes, they always seem to be sweet in beer, but thats not the case, as the bretty yeast takes this down to dry, but there is still some cool white wine character to this. i like the clean fruit and the musty funk and wood together, a lot going on for such a light beer, and its quite complex overall. subtle lemon and lemongrass to the hops, more hops than expected here, and a cool earthy grain profile thats nice with the oak and the brett. lovely fermentation profile, which is always the case from these two, and overall this is a saison far better than its ratings! cant get enough oxbow in my life right now!
