Space Cowboy is a farmhouse amber ale brewed with oats and European hops. A crushable country ale brewed for our hardworking locals.

Crushable is the right adjective. This works in any season – great with good, great just as a knockback can for a session. Funky, farmhousey, a little malty… Not too hoppy.

I'm thinking that this is a different recipe than when first introduced 10 years ago. Many of those reviews and ratings seem harsh on what to me today is a flavorful Biere. Glad I bought two from Beer Drop.

I will agree that Space Cowboy doesn't Look like much, dishwater brown and foam that doesn't last. Smells are slightly above average: subtle, dark fruits and some spices, but not much stands out. This seems intentional; given Oxbow knows they don't have to be extreme to be liked. Tastes meld well and stimulate my buds with fruit and spice.... except the tartness becomes a metallic finish (noted in early reviews, so not everything gets improved.) Light to medium-mouthed. Big Overall Hugs for Oxbow. But... Let's see if Space Cowboy gets a long with dinner tonight.

7/7/22 Had the second can with lunch today and it was suitable mid-day treat. A tart, possibly Brett-like, rendition of the Biere... but still suitable at the table.

On draft at Circuit Social

Look: Burnt amber with a thick eggshell head

Smell: Whole wheat bread, cloves, and honey

Taste: Much like the nose. Whole wheat bread with spicy lager yeast and honey.

Feel: Quenching and aqueous. Big flavor but clean. Light carbonation. No alcohol.

Overall: A clean easy drinking delicious beer. Another great beer from Oxbow.

On tap at Prohibition Pig. Hazy amber. Smells of bready malts and floral yeastiness. Some butter. Tastes a little acidic up front. Earthy, spicy, a little bit of an oily texture. Bready malts take over but dry out and leave a spicy earthy finish. Butter becomes more prevalent as it warms. Medium light and well carbonated. Strange and not what I expected, but it keeps me interested. Also, the seeming diacetyl flavor doesn't bother me much.
