restrained and delicate beer, yet still distinctly oxbow. these guys are starting to (or i am starting to more readily identify) a house yeast complexion that is really flattering. a little haze to this mild saison, a nose of mixed grains and a little funk, less azacca hop obviousness than i anticipated from the name, if that is indeed what they mean with it, but it is hoppier than many other table saison types, and they yeast here is appealing and interesting enough, a cool mix of old world and new school, which oxbow generally hits pretty solidly with their beers in this field. its not too wild, its not too malty, nor too hoppy, almost lazily finding a cool balance and complexity, faint willow bark and smoke like a gratzer or grodziskie might have, which throws me off a little, but its so minor, still bretty and dry and rustic and simple. light ripe apricot and melon from the hops, grassy and sort of spicy noble too, clean and easy in the finish, well carbonated, and downright delicious and easy drinking. they dont all have to be headturners on the flavor spectrum to be world class from oxbow, and this is a great example of something a little more mellow but equally high end as anything else they do. fun to find one of their beers on tap, a rarity in my world!

On tap at Meridian Pint. This is a collaboration with Coppertail Brewing Co.

Pours a hazy, cloudy pale yellow.

The aroma is a little sweet, citrus notes, a little peach and pear.

The taste is mostly citrus hops, a little bit of melon, and some spice. Moderately sweeter than I anticipated.

Light, sessionable and refreshing. Not a lot of carbonation.

Classified as a grisette. Refreshingly grassy. The body is wonderfully smooth and creamy.

On-tap 8/1/2015 at Armsby Abbey, in Worcester, MA served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a light cloudy yellow color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains strong Brettanomyces, citrus, Belgian yeast and light malts.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of wheat, Belgian yeast and a light malt character. Then some tartness comes in from the Brett and citrus. The hops presence is very mild and brings a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly tart but also a bit harsh.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, it’s a solid beer but there are better choices within the style.

Light head but good lace. Very cloudy, creating whitish yellow color.

Vanilla and lemon peel are the initial aromas I catch.

Lightly sour but with a good hop bite. Not as earthy as some Saisons. Highly carbonated, spritzy. The swallow and aftertaste is like sucking a hop pellet.
