On-tap…large, puffy white head, with a nice amount of lace. The aroma is serious wheat and citrus, with almost no phenols. There’s a faint floral, German hop aroma. It’s a pretty standard, unremarkable aroma: typical American hefe. It’s a sweet beer, with more malt in the taste than the aroma leads you to believe. Medium bitterness, and average carbonation. The beer has a pleasing wheat flavor, and is solidly drinkable. I had it at the bar, before dinner, and found it to be a refreshing, appetizing way to wake up my palate.

On draught at Old Baldy in Upland, CA. The beer is a hazy yellowish color with a medium thin white head that diminishes fairly quick. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Mild wheat aroma with touches of fruit and spice. Medium, clean body with flavors of sweet fruit and wheat, plus a touch of spice. The finish is fruity with a short wheaty aftertaste. Unmemorable overall.

Draft to pint

Woodranch, Moorpark, CA

App- A very very hazy orange with bursts of yellow. This was poured with about a 1/2 in of head on it as well. No cling at all.

Smell- Very corn like. A lot more American adjunct than anything else. Just very bland and boring.

Taste- A little bit of bubble gum, and by little I mean almost non- existant. A huge malty, corn like taste.

Mouth- Medium bodied with a high carbonation and just a little bit of hef.

Drink- Damn, I had high hopes I would find a diamond in the rough. Man was I wrong. Just very bland and boring. I could have said this was a step up from Bud light and been right I think.

I really want Bayhawk to improve, as it is located about five miles from my house. Still not overly impressed, sadly.

Pours a pale yellow with slight cloudiness and a inch or so of white head. Taste is sweet, with a hint of bitter/zesty lemon and citrus. Not overly flamboyant with flavor, and the aroma is pretty flat. Mouthfeel is thin and watery.

When poured into my frosted mug, the appearance was of a hazy light golden yellow with some foam. The smell had a mild yeasty aroma and a hint of malts. While drinking this Hefe, I pick up a nice pleasant yeasty taste, a hint of cloves, blended with a hint of malts. The aftertaste had a tangy/bitterness that really was quite pleasant. It seem to bring everything to geither for a nice refresting flavor.

Had on tap in San Juan Capistrano.

A-no head (unfortunately served with a lemon), almost a chicken broth body

S-slight clove, some citrus (again--served with a lemon.)

T-really nice full malt and wheat flavor. nice assertive malt profile. some slight clove and citrus

M-medium and not overly carbonated

D-Really enjoyed this beer with a chicken salad. I wish more American Wheats were like this. Not too strong a yeast and not overly carbonated. Great beer with food.

I had this beer on tap at a restaurant in southern California. No lemon wedge by request. My first glass was room temp. and my second glass was frosted. I prefer the room temp glass, but it didn't seem to change the taste of this particular Hefe.

To me, this beer was very unique. It looked like a hefe, it drank like a hefe, but it smelled and tasted like a pretzel. A bit of lemon in the end, but mostly pretzel. I didn't get any smoke or banana or clove or coriander. Just pretzel. I guess it was the wheat?

All in all, I really liked it. Not what I expected, but it's hard to beat pretzels with beer, and this was all wrapped into one! I recommend this one.

Certainly more on the American Wheat side of the scale with a clean finish and minimal esters. Fine as a summer ale but not completely balanced in terms of acidity.

Bayhawk has some of the best pricing in the So Cal area and makes some solid beers, especially for parties and they always have good inventory. This is not their best offering but still fine for a sunny beach or barbeque weekend.

I have had lots of Hefewizen beers and this one does stand out as a cali hef. When poured, it's a bit foamy with a nice yellow cloudy color. The smell is a little sweet, sour with a floury finish. The first drink goes right to your tongue. Lots of lemon. It is very drinkable. With or without the lemon, refreshing and easy to drink. (maybe to easy to drink if that's possible)
