Very Good
Blind PirateBlind Pirate
Notes: A juicy IPA. Pirates love citrus fruits almost as much as they love blood. If the phrase “you are what you eat” is true, then pirates are blood oranges. If the phrase “you are what you drink” is true, you’re about to be an incredibly delicious, juicy hop bomb of an IPA. We add bits of real blood orange to every beer, so you know it’s good.

Top 3 beers, amazing nose, hops offset by tropical notes

Despite being only 6.5%, this really does drink like a pretty heavy DIPA. I think this is one of the best offerings I've had out of Georgia.

Pours an orange amber, almost the color of bourbon. Little head or lacing.

Smell is boozy and orange, some nice hop notes as well.

Taste is fantastic. Huge sweet malt, followed by acidic and sweet orange and slightly piney hop flavors. There's a TON of flavor thrown at you, but I think it's really well balanced. Do not expect this to be a clean or light beer.

Feeling is fairly medium to thick, with a medium amount of carb. Definitely coats the mouth with hoppy bitterness.

This is everything I expected from something like the grapefruit sculpin and more. Maybe because it's so fresh, but I think this is a wonderful offering from a local brewery and can contend with many more renowned beer nationwide.

I will revisit this review on a second drinking.

For a DIPA, it tastes fairly light. You definitely smell the citrus from the blood orange, but I didn't really get much of a blood orange flavor. It's a fairly good DIPA - very drinkable. There was a bit of an ester taste and a bit of funkiness, but in a good way

Decent IPA that I picked up this Fall.

Definitely a strong orange smell with a weird urine overtone, but it doesn't taste like a double IPA at all, more like a regular IPA.

So many blood orange beers these days. The taste of blood orange really does accent a hoppy beer quite well. Though in this beer there is something off about the combination of the hops and the blood orange. Hard to describe, but they don't mesh perfectly. Still a good tasting beer.

Surprisingly good! I usually don’t like Monday night brewing but this one is refreshing. Great smell that delivers in the taste as well. I would definitely get again.

First observation: Was a bit skeptical to read the bottle label saying this is 6.5% ABV with 55 IBU, pretty low for a DIPA.
Poured into a Belgian snifter. Appearance was a bright orange and more transparent than the other Georgia DIPAs/IPAs I've had recently. Left a 0.5-1 inch head that didn't stay around for long. Aroma was full of fresh citrus, orange peel and hops. Unfortunately the flavor didn't live up to the smells: it was overwhelmingly malty for a so-called DIPA, virtually no orange or citrus character was apparent, and the bitterness level was much lower than average. Mouthfeel was average. This is consistent with my initial skepticism - not sure how this passed as being labeled a double IPA; it's really more like a pale ale or standard IPA at most. Would rate this as around average for a pale ale but since this is advertised as a DIPA, it is below average. Georgia's other offerings in this category are far superior.

In brief: A dry and bitter IPA with delicious Blood Orange aroma and flavor. This is a fantastic "fruit IPA" that nails the style. Avoids the trap of being overly sweet. Beautiful color and nice aroma, finish has lingering piney bitterness and orange peel. Very drinkable.
