Notes: Fly on a journey to the cosmos with Cardigans of the Galaxy. Sure, this is a 9.5% ABV, 95 IBU DIPA hopped with Columbus, Mandarina Bavaria, Simcoe, Citra, Ekuanot, Mosaic, Comet and Galaxy. But the secret sauce is the extra-dry finish and the big citrusy melony nose.

Just as long as you heed mom's warning and take a sweater with you, all will be well.

A: The beer is very hazy and a bit pale yellow in color. It poured with a short white head that died down and left lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of eucalyptus, gooseberries, mango and tangerines are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional flavors of pine and herbs. A light to moderate amount of bitterness is perceptible. There are also some hints of alcohol.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat juicy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA has a diverse mix of hops in the hop bill and as a result has a lot of complexities in the smell and taste.

Outstanding new-school West Coast IPA. Clear (revelation!), bitter and resiny, but with a healthy blast of juicy citrus. Really awesome beer.

Crystal clear pale gold body. Sudsy, soapy, pure white head of tight bubbles that falls quickly but laces nicely. Beautiful beer in an old school way. If it had a little more color it would be a classic.

Sweet malts, pine resin, grapefruit rind, citrus juice, and all kinds of dank greens. Actually a little understated given the ABV. I love what’s there but wish it was actually bigger.

The tongue makes up for the nose, however. Sweet caramel malts laced with bright ruby red grapefruit juice. Resiny as hell and very herbal. Perfectly bitter to balance out the sweetness of the malts without going over the top. Reminds me of what Lagunitas used to do and be. Zero stone fruit. A little berry. This one is all citrus, and d-d-dank. Love it.

Feel is nearly perfect. Nicely carbonated. Slick, full-bodied, and velvety like I like my IIPAs to be, but not syrupy at all. Medium mouth feel with just a touch of alcohol heat. Spot on and a welcome departure from the world of haze.

16 ounce can, dated 10/31/18 and beat by 3/3/19. Poured into tulip.
Orange, ruby hue. off white head, light lacing of a few whisps.
Nose of tangerine, orange and lemon pith and peel, graininess.
Citrus, honeydew melon, dank, pine, old school dipa without the sweetness. Zero alcohol detected.
Medium body, slight slickness, dryer finish.
Tastes more muted, nothing pops. It’s a good beer but not something that I’d seek out again.

Had from can dated 11/1/18, had within two weeks of canning

BOOM, MNB's best to date. Incredible.

New style IPA, but not of the haze-juice bomb variety; this is a subtley dank, hop forward beer that's is full of flavor and no bitterness on the finish. Equally unexpected is the lack of a malt backbone to offset the hop profile of a DIPA - doesn't exist because it's not needed! Heavy citrus and melon, a tinge of wonderful garlic/onion in the hop oils.

Seek out. Fantastic.

Poured into a snifter. A slightly hazy golden color, almost clear. A vigorous pour produced only a small white head. Bright citrus and pineapple on the nose, maybe melon as suggested on the can. The taste followed with melon, tangerine, pineapple, and faint grassy notes. Assertively bitter with a clean, dry finish. Slightly low carbonation. Overall a nice DIPA.

16oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 16.99/ 4 pack. Canned 11/1/18. Served in a Monday Night snifter. Enjoyed 11/9/18.

Pours a brilliant light gold with a full cap of loose white froth. The head shrinks to a small central island and dotted crown, leaving only a few thin strings of lace.

Smells of melon, stone fruit, citrus, a little pine, some distinct cattiness and a floral note. There is a noticeable caramel-like malty sweetness as it warms.

Tastes boldly bitter. Melon rind, orange peel, dank garlic/ green onion, peach pits, fruit skin, caramel, flower petals and some alcohol which is there but never detracts.

Dryish medium full feel with fluffy carbonation. Bitter aftertaste stone fruit, citrus peel and floral garlic.

Here’s some more delicious lupulin nectar from Monday Night’s Hop Hut. Cardigans of the Galaxy is a well executed double IPA. Pleasantly bitter with a complementary variety of hops and an appropriate malt presence.

Appearance: Pours a deep yellow-gold body, dusted with some very, very small-sized, fine particles and topped with an incredibly short-lived, whitish head.

Smell: The nowadays ubiquitous fresh-cut melons, papaya, mango, citrus, a bit of fresh sage.

Taste: Begins with a lightly bready base maltiness, fairly neutral in that regard really, with some middling upfront sweetness. Earthy herbs, tangy citrus fruits and tropical tastes with touches of strawberry. A fair amount of hop flavor though not much in the way of bitterness. Some peppery, warming alcohol tones nearing the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall: It's alright.
