look: Modest khaki head on the pour that mostly recedes. Some light lacing. Very dark brown, nearly opaque, with some cola highlights when held to light.
smell: Dark chocolate and coffee up front. Vanilla's there too. Not getting port notes in the clear but there's a something extra that's gotta be the port barrels.
taste: Expertly balanced flavors of sweet chocolate, vanilla, and Port with a countering coffee bitterness that ensures it's not too sweet. Very easy drinker for 13.8.

500mL bottle from the brewery. Released 12/15/18. Served in a Monday Night snifter. Enjoyed 12/30/18.

Pours oil black with a cap of dense deep khaki head. The froth recedes to some wavy islands across the surface and full halo but no lacing.

Smells rich and inviting. Chocolate covered port balls, creamed coffee, cooked caramel, vanilla and some earthy wood.

Flavors are smooth and decadent. The vinous alcohol-glazed, candied fruit tawny port character adds a whole different richness than bourbon or whiskey would. Fudge, cappuccino, burnt caramel, roasty malt, faint vanilla, wet wood and a surprisingly subtle booze presence.

Velvety full body with pleasantly restrained carbonation. There is a chocolate covered cherry note to the finish that works well with the smooth caramel cappuccino.

Monday Night makes another strong entry to their excellent Situational Ethics series. The tawny port character is much stronger here than I’ve noted in other port barrel aged brews and I would love Monday Night to experiment some more with them. Three variants last year and another three this year and I can say with confidence that you can’t go wrong with Situational Ethics.
