Sampled originally on draft, then from a bottle into a snifter

A: Dark chocolate brown with a half finger off-white head that turns to bubbles. Thick, curtainy lacing.

S: Malt heaven. Smokey with peat undertones. Caramel and banana.

T : Smooth, robust, malty as hell. Slightly astringent. Dry with a light smokey finish that doesn't offend. Peat brings up the rear.

M: medium to heavy with frothy carbonation. Bagpipes play on the tongue.

O: This one gets your attention with a great malt and smoke tango. A great sipper with chocolate chip cookies or Swiss cheese. Probably great with barbecue, too. If you're a malt fan, drink up. A great surprise from this Georgia brewery.

A dark brown color with a small tan head.

Smoky aroma, roasted malt.

Smoky, peaty taste. A little sweet caramel.

A little too much smoke, giving a bitter mouthfeel.

Growler fill from Moondog Growlers located in GA near the brewery. {lightly revised based on April 2013 trip to the brewery.}

Served in a snifter, this beer is a lovely ruby-brown color; crystal clear with fine highlights. Ample and durable tan hand (on tap).

The aroma is rather light and fruity compared to the full flavor. The latter features dark roasted malts and more spicy hops than I expected. The higher ABV is well-hidden; drinks like a 5.5% although the alcohol comes through in the nose after warming. Hints of smoke and roasted nuts. Brewery says the grain bill includes "cherrywood-smoked malt, chocolate malt, and roasted barley". Roasted grain, coffee, toffee and a trace of smoke in the aftertaste. No burnt flavors and almost no peat.

M: medium-full body; good carbonation; dry finish.

O: a very drinkable and rather dry Scotch Ale, "Americanized" with a healthy but well-proportioned dose of hops. Unique, perhaps due to the cherrywood-smoked malt.

Had this on tap in Blue Ridge. Really an excellent choice from these guys, the new facility is turning out better beer than when they were contracting. Great balance, excellent smell. The best I have tried from them. Reminds me a bit of Gaelic Ale from Highland Brewing Company.

Beautiful dark brew with purplish highlights. Small cream head with poor retention.

Sweet and fruity aroma.

Flavor follows: potent, fruity. Alcohol surprisingly shows. Nutty and sweet.

A touch hot for the ABV, but smooth and oily.

A surprisingly good Scotch ale.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. This beer has a big malt and grain aroma. The color is pure dark brown with a medium sized off-white head.
The flavor is very rich and smooth. I liked this beer quite a bit and thought it was more than just a scottish ale.
