Appearance: darker than usual for a ipa. Dark amber. Huge head on an aggressive pour. Thick fluffy off white head and lacing. Very handsome brew IMO.
Smell: nice but a little back for a dipa. Some grapefruit and sweet floral. Seems to be a malt forward dipa.
Taste: a little more hop bite in the taste. Some bitterness and grapefruit up front balanced by a weaker malt presence. A bitter and mostly dry finish.
Overall: nothing to knock your socks off. Pleasant enough.

My favorite beer in the world is Piraat, so when I see a double IPA with a pirate theme...instant purchase!

Appearance 4.0: Pours out an opaque, chestnut brown. Some particulates dancing around, which is a good thing. Nice, 1/2" head. Good lacing.

Smell 4.5: Wow! Huge hops nose on this baby. Piney, citrusy, also hints of pineapple, malt and good old-fashioned booze.

Taste 4.25: Front is just a little sweet. Middle is where wave after wave of hops, malt, and a slight hint of booze swirls around your tongue and makes you want to drink the whole thing in one mighty gulp and then drink another one. Finish dries everything out nicely and also features a very pleasant sour taste. Aftertaste is long and pleasant: just an overall hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel 4.25: Really nice and well-planned level of carbonation that serves to accentuate the experience. Full on the palate, as well.

Overall 4.25: Very enjoyable brew. Big, hoppy and slightly boozy, this baby is a great winter warmer. I like how -on the label-- the Monday Night guys give you a pictorial list of things that go good with the beer. I can also recommend this beer as a sessioner. Just don't do it the night before you go back to work. I've had like three. I think. What was I writing about? What am I doing here? Where are my pants?

Golden amber in appearance. Some thin white head and same thin white collar. Aroma is slightly citrusy with a nice subtle malt sweetness and slight hoppy pineyness. Some lacing. Bitter piney hops in the taste. Something is definitely off with the hops in the flavor. Stale, old hops? Too dry? Something... Medium body and carbonation.
