Predominately a resturant, it also has a small vertical drinking area to the left of the main entrance. When visiting the toilets, have a peep outside at the impressive tower brewery to the rear of the building. The food is superb, easily the best of the town’s brewpubs. Many people in a rush miss out this pub as the same beer is available at the Goldener Kessel in the Altstadt, much more convenient for the other 3 classic brew pubs in town. I would suggest that it is well worth making the time to visit this place too, particularly to value the brew tower.

Editors Note: If you are about to visit Duesseldorf, I would be really happy to do a in person trade with you. Don’t hesitate, just contact me.

One thing to like about the breweries in Dusseldorf (and during my visit to Germany) is if the tables are filled inside, there is often outside seating as a second resort. As long as I have my heavy jacket on, the cold weather won't stop me from sitting outside. You're sitting in the middle of the modern city at this brewery, not the old town, so the surroundings are a little....newer. But Schumacher retains the Dusseldorf tradition of using small 250 ml glasses, putting a filled glass at your seat moments after you arrive, and keeping it full until you tell the staff to stop. Just one beer here (the house alt), but it's damn good, and priced competitively at €1.80. One more altbrauerei to visit in the city....

We went here to celebrate a friends bachelor party.
If you like big portions of meat and lots of beer this is your stop.

The place itself is quite big and also has an outside terras.
The interior is typically German with lots of wood and long tables.

We had a mixed platter of meat (various sausages, hams, bacon etc...) The meat itself was really great and inexpensive.

Service is fast and friendly.
The waiters kept on putting the Schumacher alt bier on the table untill you said "no more".

Definately going back when visiting düsseldorf.

I stopped here for dinner with 2 colleagues from the UK, luckily we found a table despite a very busy night in the Altstadt. This place serves their own alt bier but the real draw is the food, a little bit more refined than the other alt pubs (although I liked everything I've tried at these places).

If you're looking for wild game this place has it, I had wild boar with some delicious sauce, the others ordered venison steaks. Everything was delicious and an unreal value at only 12-14 euros per meal.

The alt bier itself is good for the style, not my favorite style but one wants to drink local.

The atmosphere is maybe a touch upscale versus the other pubs I tried (Schlussel, Uerige, Füchschen) but still felt "old-world". Lots of wood, tight quarters, low lighting, and so on. Additionally, this is the easiest one to get to, just steps away from the U-bahn stop for the Altstadt area (Heinrich Heine Allee).

Stopped in at the Schumacher brauhaus in the Altstadt (not the brewery itself) one rainy day in Düsseldorf.

Very nice, traditional pub, though with modern conveniences. The emphasis here is more on food than most brewpubs I've been to, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The selection was minimal, though this is the case with most places that serve Altbier. The Schumacher Alt itself, however, is my favorite; really quality stuff.

The menu offers quite a lot of choices, all of which looked delicious. I ended up with some roast braised in Alt and some dumplings and kraut; really fantastic food.

Overall, a really nice place to stop in and have a bite.
