We’re celebrating hop-mania with our outrageously hoppy lager, Excess IPL. Various methods of hopping throughout the brewing and lagering process maximize the aromas. With bold hop aromatics and flavors, this India Pale Lager is packed to the brim with intense hop goodness.

From a can.
A mildly hazy orange with a dense, off white head with good retention and lacing this looks solid. The nose is clean with a juicy and fruity hop character, with orange ,peach, mango and a little passionfruit. A light honey and mild caramel nite is present. The palate opens mostly hoppy with a blend of fruit, a mild bitterness and a touch of dough. Quite juicy, with a clean lager base, alcohol is well hidden. Mildly sweet and juicy on the finish, this beer is decent. The hop profile almost feels like it would be better in an IPA, though

Canned 4/26/20. Fuck that’s old for a hoppy lager
It seems that I’m drinking a lot of Jack’s Abby recently, but not just the old favorites, this is my 3rd new beer from them in a week. The nuance in their lagers is always impressive, and I’m thinking that the 4th highest rated IPL on this site will carry the same nuance as some of my favorites from them
Pours a cloudy gold with a finger of white head that quickly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
Despite the age, the hops are still very present in the nose. I’m picking up on aromas of herbal hops, lemongrass, general citrus, earthy spice, and a touch of bready malt
The taste however seems a bit deteriorated, but not in a major way. Up front, I’m tasting peppery spice, tart lime, and herbal hops. The swallow brings notes of herbal hops (much stronger here), pithy grapefruit, pale malt, and earthy spice
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation resulting in a beer that feels a bit heavy. Finishes somewhat dry and spicy
I’m honestly not sure if this being past freshness helped or hurt this one. It seems overly grassy and herbal, and I think being fresh might make that worse. Nothing about it really screams lager sadly

Pours a hazy light orange with a medium size short lived heady.
Smells and tastes of floral slightly bitter hops.
This lager has a lighter body than comparable IPA ales. Medium carbonation and a light clean mouthfeel.
Nice alternative when you want something hoppy but lighter than an IPA.

Canned 4/26/20. Pours slightly hazy, gold in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is big herbal hops, papaya, crusty bread, and lemon. Medium-light bodied, slightly bitter, with moderate carbonation. This is delicious. Back into Jack's Abby with a huge way. Fresh dank hops. Not always into super herbal hoppy beers but this is so well crafted.

Pours a pale amber with slight reddish hue and a frothy white head that leaves a trail of lace.
Smells of tropical fruit, floral bouquet, and bread malt.
In the mouth is tropical fruit up front - peach and mango - followed by earthy undertones and a bread malt backbone with slight toffee notes. Finishes dry and a little nutty.

Reviewed from (very) long-standing notes. Poured from the 16 oz. can into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass. The can, excitingly, was purchased locally (one-time shipment at Total Wine). Purchased on 9/15/17, consumed a couple weeks later (exact date was not recorded).
A: Mildly hazy medium gold - nowhere close to turbid, but not the crystal-clear I rather expected. Lots of visible carbonation. Forms a two-finger big-bubble white head that lasts very well.
S: A pleasant nose. Tropical fruits, kiwi, tangerine, and mild resin. Melon, lychee and a mild dank. The lightest of two-row and cracker malts. Maybe even a little more absence of maltiness than a typical West Coast IPA - which definitely lets the hop aromas shine here.
T: A punch of hop flavors everywhere. Tropical fruits, melon, dank. Citrusy orange rind. Lychee and kiwi and pineapple. Light cracker malts. Then more melon and citrus pith bitterness in the hang.
M: A light body with good carbonation sensation – but not as “crisp” as some IPLs I've had. The alcohol presence is quite well-hidden.
O: Really tasty. Unlike some IPLs, there’s not much here to suggest its status as a lager rather than an ale. Maybe there's just a little less yeasty presence, but it’s subtle and not likely something I’d have picked up on if it wasn’t for the label on the can. But regardless, this was quite enjoyable albeit nothing amazing. But good enough that I’ll likely go pick up a few more to drink my way through while Jack’s Abby stuff is available here in FL.

Pours hazy and golden with a good head. Aroma and flavor is pleasantly hoppy and bitter with strong notes of honey upfront with melon undertones. Faint aroma of mango. Honestly it’s s delicious beer to drink and one I don’t get tired of. The hop flavor is perfect and pronounced but also very balanced.

Bought a 16 oz can at Portland grocery store on the recommendation of the beer dude.
I am not keen on hazy beers....they have become an abomination of brewing. But that turns out to be the end of my complaints.
A very pleasant tasting hoppy beer ---- not in the current citrusy/fruity bent, but just old school resiny/piney/grassy...nice!
Sticky, dry aftertaste.
Very nice beer. IPL is an interesting style (I also enjoyed Gulpener's Ur Hop IPL from the Netherlands).
