Mostly transparent amber with a touch of red/pink. One finger white head recedes to a thin film quickly
Aroma is straight cranberry. Not overwhelmingly acidic, big fruit, smells a little sweet too.
Flavor is cranberry, a touch of tartness nothing over the top though. Drinks like a cranberry lemonade. Maybe a bit of leathery funk on the finish. Neither too sweet nor too tart. Good carbonation for the style.
Not a sour for those that only care about the extremes of the style. Very nicely crafted, not amazingly complex but quite strong in the flavors that are present without being cloying.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice crystal clear copper golden hue. Nice one finger white head that fades to leave light wisps.

S - Aromas of very very funky cheesy going on, light tartness. Really rotten milk like, lactose, good faint berries.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, very odd funk, almost fermented berries, nice tartness, good berry notes. Pleasant finish.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, fluffy, bit thin.

O - Overall this was a nice flavour, good tartness. Pleasant, though the nose was really poor.

Pours a mild fizzy foamy head that fades semi quickly, no real lacing, mostly clear honey golden color touch of rosy pink color.

Nose tart funk, lacto like bacteria funk, tart cranberry and generic berry, big tart fermented cranberry, little vanilla toasted oak barrel, cranberry flesh.

Taste brings big tart cranberry, fresh cranberry and cranberry juice, tart fermented frosted cranberry, sour funk and little acidic, little sweet toasted malt. Flemmy finish, tart funky cranberry funk and sour acidic, cranberry flesh.

Mouth is med bod, flemmy sour funk acidic fleshy, decent carb.

Overall not bad, really interesting cranberry but I feel only people that know cranberries can appreciate it, but really interesting.

Straight pour from a 16.9oz/500ml/1 pt. 0.9oz pry-off bottle to an oversized wineglass (Hill Farmstead stemmed globe). This is fresh, and in good condition: bottled on May 2, 2016, as indicated by a bottling date printed in yellow ink on the shoulder of the bottle: “1195 110:05/02/16.” Purchased the day prior, and went straight into my fridge until the time of consumption.

Appearance (5.0): Very nearly three full fingers of fluffy, paper-white foam rise off of the pour, capping a pinkish orange, moderately hazy body. The head dies down surprisingly slowly, for a Berliner, leaving a rocky, fluffy cap on top of the body (which I’ve decided looks like strawberry lemonade). As the beer goes down, it leaves sudsy splotches and patches all around the glass. For a Berliner, this is gorgeous.

Smell (4.25): Ooooh, there’s a beautiful meeting of lactic sourness and cranberry tartness in the nose, that’s bright and crisp and wonderfully cranberry-ful. Light, soft wheat aromas are very obvious here without being heavy or thick: a slightly flowery note, baking soda biscuits, and common crackers. The lactic acid is even clearer from the glass, without the yogurty tang you sometimes get from Berliners. Just a clean sourness with lemon juice and mashed cranberries. Love the wheat malt here.

Taste (4.25): Oddly, this comes off as much cleaner than a typical Berliner. There’s something very smooth about it—maybe the lagering? The wheat brings the same soft, kind of flowery, cracker-like body, but it’s very brightly outshone by lactic sourness that manages to not come off as cutting or sharp—just very even and surprisingly smooth, despite how clear it is. The cranberry blends in with its light, berry-like sweetness nearly masked by its citric tartness. The gentle sweetness of the cranberry and wheat components meld nicely, while the bright sourness of the lactic acid and cranberry’s not-quite-puckering tartness merge just as naturally. I’m just surprised at how smooth, balanced, and nuanced this is, considering it’s a Berliner made with cranberries.

Mouthfeel (4.5): Spot-on for the style: the body is light, swishy, and dry, while the carbonation starts out subtly but foams up to a nice, even tingle (not quite prickly) all over before washing out. The drink is juicy at first but dry and quenching in the finish.

Overall (4.0): This was, overall, just a very refreshing beer with a surprising amount of subtlety woven into its otherwise sour and tart nature. I’m not sure if that’s the result of Jack’s Abby’s lagering methods or what, but it stood apart from other Berliners and fruited sours. Very impressive, frankly, and quite tasty. And quite pretty, too; Recommended!
