Jack's Abby "Saxony Lager"
16 fl. oz. can, coded "#323 025"
$2.75 @ Bottles, Packs & Growlers, Philadelphia, PA

Look: The first pour without disturbing the lees was fairly clear. With the yeast poured it became very hazy with particles in suspension. It's a golden to light amber in color beneath a frothy head of white. The head retention is better than average but the lacing doesn't quite do as well.

Smell: Grainy, lightly nutty, and softly caramelish malt with just a hint of floral and mildly herbal hops.

Taste: As the aroma suggests it will be but with a fuller maltiness that includes breadiness and a more distinct note of soft caramel, and a hint of additional fruitiness. Very nicely balanced by a moderate bitterness. It's malty and sweetish but it still finishes mostly dry.

Feel: Medium bodied with a median carbonation that's gently crisp and then smoother across the palate.

Overall: Having just returned from a visit to southern Germany, but unfortunately not the Saxony region, I'll note that I did find several beers that were very much the same as this, all listed as kellerbiers. This might be a touch nuttier, and softer in the mouth, but very much the same. Overall I found it nicely balanced, remarkably drinkable, and satisfying.

On-tap 2/18/2017 at Flynn’s in Mansfield, MA, served in a tapered pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark gold color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains light caramelized malts, lager yeast some citrus and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. Then some mildly sweet flavors of caramel and citrus come in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer too drink for a while.

Can purchased at One Stop Brew Shop in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a dark clear-ish amber, with a small foamy head, and a lot of lacing.

Smells like rich bready malt, slight caramel, brown bread, light noble hops.

This seems to be an interesting mashup of a vienna lager and a kellerbier, and I definitely dig it. It's got that wonderful slightly sweet and very bready malt character, with very light but pleasant Noble hop bitterness. The unfiltered nature leads to a nice fruity sweetness, and a protein-rich fullness to the beer. This is wonderful.

This has a crisp, full mouthfeel, with a good level of carbonation.

Jack's Abby can do no wrong here, as usual. They slay at almost everything.

Treated as a Kellerbier, this was poured into a mug.
The appearance was a glossy burnt golden color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that softly fell off to leave some messy lace.
The aroma had a wonderful blend of sweet honey-ed biscuits, clean bready malts and a light earthy to grassy hoppiness.
The flavor yielded to the sweetness of the malts and the honey. Nice clean biscuit/bready malty aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a great sessionability about it. Carbonation felt light but good to me. ABV felt as projected. Smooth sweet malty finish.
Overall, nicely done Kellerbier well worthy of coming back to.

From the 16 fl. oz. can stamped on the bottom with 339-022217. Sampled on June 15, 2017.

The pour is a cloudy looking light amber with a soft, lasting white head.

The aroma emits characters of toasted bread, Euro-malts, toffee, sweetness, butterscotch fudge, but a low to no hop profile.

The body falls into the medium range but it sure is chewy and smooth.

The taste is immediately sweet and toasty but it evolves quickly into a mildly dry and bitter finish.

The beer comes in a medium amber color, beautiful clarity with a rising carbonation.

The beer offers a bit of toasted crusty bready sweetness, a bit of honey, crisp floral and leaning towards. The hop bitterness fights against this wonderful bready richness. A bit of earthy and minty character cleans up the palate the finish.

Unbearably "perfect" of a beer. The malts play so well with the crispness of the hops.

16oz. can served in a tulip pint. Pours a hazy, burnished gold with a tight, fizzy, quarter inch, off-white head the sizzles and disperses towards the edges. Subdued notes - suggestions of noble hops and traces of sour mash and grassy notes. No surprises in the flavor profile - consistent with nose; however, the hops character is slightly more pronounced. Mouthfeel is light in body with a pleasant, even carbonation and a semi-dry finish. Overall, easy drinking and a nice example of the style.

Hazy, golden colored body; thick, frothy head. Warm aroma of toasted grains with some feathery esters. Flavors of toasted cereal grains and mild caramel; well-balanced hop bitterness offsetting the sweetness. Medium body; a little warm with a gentle prickliness to the palate; balanced sweet/dry finish.

A well done and flavorful lager, malty with complementary bitterness offset and with a slight taste of peach-like fruitiness.
