Tropical IPL. We gave our classic Hoponius Union a tropical fruit twist to create Hoponius on Holiday. This IPL combines cold lager fermentation with a West Coast IPA hop profile. A blend of classic American hops accentuates the tropical fruit flavors and lends a citrusy aroma. A refreshingly crisp finish complements the pleasant bitterness of the hops and leaves you wanting more.

Clear gold with a finger and a half of airy white head. Modest lacing. Big, but delicate, tropical aroma. Tropicality continues to the taste. Almost has a fruit cocktail vibe to it. Pineapple, cherry, that sort of a mix. Maybe some Christmas spices too? Light crackers malt. Fairly bitter, clean finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not a daily drinker, but a nice, fruity, holiday beer.

Really was not impressed with this beer. The best way to describe it would be as if you were drinking a flower. The best thing about this beer is it's color. It has a nice golden look to it that is aesthetically pleasing. However, I believe the beer is too flowery in taste and smell. It has an aroma that reminds me of the perfume section at your local mall department store. That smell is also similar to the after taste of the brew. I do think it sips smooth, but the lingering flowery taste is difficult for me to get passed. Overall not my favorite.

Perfume shop holiday. As compared with their top ranked Lager of same name:
4th review of this brewer, my first rating under BA.Much better 2nd time when I came back to ipl.
This aged lager IPL needs time in the glass to open up, as when it's first poured it's too floral.
a) Hazed, golden, ring of white, shards of lace, like a hoppy pilsner.
s) Flower shop, for me too much so, then tempers as it warms. Leafy, fresh, hop cones, but also lily, funeral, and cut grass.
t) Follows too flowery smell.
f) thinner than I'd like.
o) Too floral, sweetly flowery to please me, who wants more masculine beers. But ok for spring, (if it would get here in 2020), summer or late summer.

Crowler from Earls Beer and Cheese on the UES NYC, during the COVID-19 lockdown. Almost opaque dark gold, nice fluffy white head head, smells vaguely fruity with some bananay phenols, taste follows with more melon, honey, and biscuits, and a mild citrus zest finish, this beer is quite wet and sticky. Maybe this was sitting for a while or the lines weren’t totally clean, but not exactly what I expected, still quite refreshing and zesty.

Jack's Abby Brewing "Hoponius On Holiday"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 06/05/19" and sampled on 09/30/19
$3.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: A rough pour brings up a massive three-finger-thick head that you can allow to settle for a moment and then top off giving it a creamier inch and a half or so lid of foam over a somewhat hazy golden body. The hops in the aroma are obvious even at pouring it, and it's sweetish with malt, floral, and tropical with honey, peach, orange, papaya, pineapple, and dull melon. On to the flavor, well, everything still fits. There's some additional mango, orange, and dried apricot but for the most part it tastes as it smells except for an extra-firm bitterness that helps corral it into a dry finish that still lingers with tropical fruit. The malt is basic if not a touch grassy (seems like Pilsner malt) and the hop flavors and aromas are not hindered or distracted in any way. Looking back, I've got a beautifully laced glass in front of me. Each sip has it's own ring but they all sort of come together as well, and although the head has completely dropped there is a nice collar left behind. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp leaving it to warm and become smooth across the palate. Overall this is an impressive IPL with lots of flavor and aroma.

A good beer but I think I just prefer the normal Hoponius Union.

Clear golden orange appearance with a slight chill haze, and a small white head. Good retention, and streaky lacing.
Awesome bright tropical smell; peach, guava, passion fruit, pink grapefruit, mango, pineapple, honey and toast.
The taste follows the nose--tart and juicy pink guava, pink grapefruit, passionfruit, mango, pineapple, papaya, and peach, with a lightly sweet honey and toasted malt. Clean finish.
Medium mouthfeel, well carbonated, smooth, crisp, clean, and slightly sticky.
Awesome tropical IPL! The title describes it perfectly.

Unlike regular Hoponius this one has more IPA like taste and doesn't have a metallic aftertaste.

16 oz. can dated 10/29/18 and poured into Aslin Teku glass.
L: 1F+ foamy white head with lots of lacing and a cap and ring. Beer is a nearly-clear golden.
S: Lots of tropical fruit and citrus - pineapple, passionfruit, orange, grapefruit. Lager yeast and bready malts.
T: More or less follows nose, especially with the nice, bready malts. Tropical taste dimmed a bit over two months, but not horribly so.
F: Light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Construction and balance very good.
O: Very decent lager with a tropical twist.
