Style: American Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This lager harmoniously combines lager yeast fermentation and west coast IPA hops. Our India style Pale Lager is like a traditional IPA but with a twist - it’s fermented cold and aged for extended periods. A blend of classic American hops creates a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma. A dry finish accentuates the pleasant bitterness and hop profile. Hoponius Union uses locally grown dehulled spelt from MA.

12 oz bottle

Pours near clear early, then clouded by the last pour, fluffy and light eggshell head

Mild nose with a hint of hops

Hops up front here, with a hit of lime on the back of the throat. Aggressive hops all over this one. Crisp, citric, tasty and quite dry.

Well worth a try

12 oz bottle poured into a pub-style pint glass.

Appearance
Golden with 2+ fingers of creamy white head. Good clarity with wisps of cloudy yeastiness floating about. Light carbonation.

Nose
Dank greens, pine sap, pineapple, mango, and candied citrus.

Taste
Dank greens, pine sap, and wintergreen. Lighter notes of candied orange, grapefruit zest, pineapple, and mango. The smooth malt backbone comes in at the end with ample notes of bread and caramel.

Mouthfeel
Medium bodied, clean, smooth, juicy, and refreshing with a modestly light bitterness.

Overall
Hot damn! Dank and juicy. Big hop flavors balanced by a clean bready maltiness. I see more of these in my future.

Very natural style fusion -- and just as promised. I'm not sure a dedicated lager drinker will go for it, but a hophead like me sure does.

Wonderful hop aroma, crisp body with a distinct lager finish. Unique take on the expected IPA experience. Obviously - whether or not you like lagers will determine how much you will enjoy the overall taste, especially the end when the malt comes on strongest and lingers after the glass is put down.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a JA glass.

Appearance: Deep golden yellow, with a thick frothy head. Lots and lots of little bubbles rising from the center and sticking on the inside of the glass. Head dissipated somewhat quickly, but lacing was sticky and sudsy.

Smell: Bready and yeasty, but with a much more prevalent citrus aroma than any other lager I've tried.

Taste: Slightly malt, with bitter, resinous hop profile. Plenty of tangerine/orangy citrus throughout, with a dry, bitter finish.

Feel: Creamy, with a velvety, crisp medium body. Easy drinking at 6.7%.

Overall: An excellent, easily drinkable yet heavy lager. Can't wait till JA starts distributing in Rhode Island liquor stores, because this lager will vault to the top of the list for any lager purchases I'll make. Yummy!
