Style: American Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This lager harmoniously combines lager yeast fermentation and west coast IPA hops. Our India style Pale Lager is like a traditional IPA but with a twist - it’s fermented cold and aged for extended periods. A blend of classic American hops creates a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma. A dry finish accentuates the pleasant bitterness and hop profile. Hoponius Union uses locally grown dehulled spelt from MA.

Undated 12 oz bottle poured into Belgian ale glass.

L: 3F head with good retention, lots of white spiderwebby lacing, foamy cap and ring. Beer is a clear copper with visible carbonation bubbles.

S: Mild citrus aroma, yeast, malts. Pretty straightforward. Also probably a little muted from fresh state.

T: Pretty much follows nose. Citrus and yeast, with your standard malty lager taste. Says it uses spelt, but I can't tell the difference between that and regular malt. Perfectly decent.

F: Light to medium body, medium carbonation. Crisp, refreshing, easy to drink. Nicely drying. Good construction and balance.

O: I'm getting the sense I prefer their straight efforts at lagers and Pilsners than IPLs, but another very good offering.

Wasn't crazy about this one...very floral with slight citrus notes. Every sip feels like it's missing just a little bit of something. Not sure what it is.

I don't know how to rate beers, I do however know how to drink them. I try lots of beers, if I like them, I stick with them. I can't say enough about Jack's Abby Hoponius Union. This beer is my daily drinker now, even though it's a one hour round trip for me to find it. Love the 12 packs and the price. Whatever you folks are doing at Jack's Abby, keep it up. I've introduced several of my friends to Hoponius Union, and they have all been thoroughly impressed. Keep it coming and I hope the distribution grows.

It is the first time I am this beer. This isn't your usual bland Lager, it is a hoppy Lager, IBU 65. I got it via a trade.

Look: semi-clear amber hue with a two-inch white head.

Aroma: Fruity, mild yeast

Taste: Bready and tropical fruit, grapefruit, a bit piney, not too different from an IPA. I think it was delicious.

Feel: medium body, medium carbonation, crisp easy drinking.

A great hoppy IPL with a just the right amount of bitterness and a dry finish. Has a gold color and a frothy white head when poured. The hops permeate the aroma.
I'm thankful to be able to buy this on the regular in Massachusetts.
