Massachusetts, United States

Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Ancient timelines talk of dark days, plagued by hardships and Kingdom demands. When hope was all but lost, a legend emerged. A plumber. With copper pipes and an uncanny wit, he battled fierce foes and saw to the brewery’s opening. Our Octoberfest is malty, smooth and exceedingly drinkable. It is perfect to celebrate and honor today’s legends. We use locally grown wheat from MA, Munich malt and noble hops.

A huge white head graces this clear copper beauty of a beer. Takes five minutes for it to kick back to an ample cap, and it stays for the ride.

Light strength aroma which is a simple mix of sweet crackers, light caramel notes, and floral and spicy hops.

Not much to the taste either. That simple mix of the aroma, with some malt sweet that is really thin, and really disappointingly neither full of caramel goodness nor full of hop flavors. A light herbal spice that is barely there is all there is of the hop character.

Thin, highly carb.'ed, finish that is not clean nor tasty, sorta the mouthfeel you don't want your festbier to have.

The most disappointing beer I have tried from Jack's Abby, a brewery I love. Get Ayinger, Spaten, or any of the easy to get and much better festbiers available instead of this one.

A large white heads about 2 fingers appears even when gently poured into my glass. If they were trying to get a color of the beer to match the name they have succeeded. This beer pours a rich cooper color.
The nose is really lacking with some biscuit overtones to be about all I find.
The taste lacks as much as the nose with some of Munich malt coming through but after that there isn't a lot more too this beer.
The mouthfeel is okay but the head and carbonation fade fast.
I will first admit to not being a big fan of this style of beer but this would be very close to the bottom on my list for this style.

On-draught @ a bar in Brooklyn. Ostensibly $4 per 16oz, but they served me 12oz.

Hints of apple. Clean lager yeast.

A: crystal clear; copper colored (duh!); 1 finger off white head that receded quickly; no lacing;

S: sweet malt; bread;

T: follows the nose with the sweetness taking over at the finish; a touch of bitterness in the background;

M: light bodied; light carbonation;

O: mellow; easy drinking; a little sweet for my taste;
