Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Ancient timelines talk of dark days, plagued by hardships and Kingdom demands. When hope was all but lost, a legend emerged. A plumber. With copper pipes and an uncanny wit, he battled fierce foes and saw to the brewery’s opening. Our Octoberfest is malty, smooth and exceedingly drinkable. It is perfect to celebrate and honor today’s legends. We use locally grown wheat from MA, Munich malt and noble hops.

L - Copper with two fingers of white head

S - Crisp lager aroma with caramel sweetness

T - Toffee, caramel, and spices from the noble hops with a green tea/mint finish. Crackery malts round it out.

F - Undercarbonated, but not too flat. Feels lighter than the abv would suggest, but still robust enough.

O - I expected more from a brewery that specializes in lagers, but this is still solid for the style with lots of flavor.

Not Bad.

Very Drinkable.

Typical - Average American Made Octoberfest Beer.

Some sips give an earthiness - dirty kind of taste that some would call 'organic'

Yesterday, I was drinking SPATEN OKTOBERFEST which is considerably better than Jack's Abby Copper - and I am normally not a big fan at all of SPATEN relative to all the other exceptional German beers - yes, I know SPATEN is one of the most popular German beers and yet my comment stands - even though I am not normally a SPATEN fan, I consider SPATEN OKTOBERFEST to be pretty damn good as of yesterday when I had it for the very first time - and YES - I find SPATEN OKTOBERFEST to be SUPERIOR to JACK ABBY Copper ...that being said, I am indeed sitting here enjoying this Jack Abby Copper - it's not bad...HENCE...Rating 3.5.

If you want THE ...and I mean "THE" ULTIMATE OKTOBERFEST BIER, then treat yourself RIGHT to some AYINGER WEIZENBOCK - now THAT is the OKTOBERFEST BIER that NO one is EVER going to Improve upon or OUT-Do - it is the ULTIMATE - THAT is my Personal Guarantee and Promise to All of You Reading this review - TREAT Yourself right !

L: Copper. Some head which immediately dissipates.

S: Bready, some caramel.

T: A nice subtle caramel. Your standard oktoberfest beer.

F: Smooth. Medium bodied, light to moderately carbonated.

O: I really liked this one from one of my favorite breweries.

Malty goodness; a good reprieve from the hoppy IPAs. One of the better examples of the style that I've had in a long time. (draft)

Poured from 12oz bottle into 13 oz tulip

Appears true to namesake and style. Transparent light copper, carb is quite visible, nearly white head settles mostly to ring with a little foam in the middle of the glass, spotty lacing.

Smells like mead, honey, caramel.

Taste is overall malt forward. Bitterness is slightly noticeable right when it meets the palate, immediately giving way to whole grain bread and nuttiness--almonds, sunflower seeds, popcorn kernel. Really pleasant aftertaste that just kind of sticks to the tongue.

This offering manages to make the malt obvious in taste, but not in body. Surprisingly drinkable coming in at just under medium to solid medium body. Although clearly visible, carb does not prick the tongue. It's there, but not too much.

JA did a great job with this one. A near perfect example of what I want from the style. Surprisingly drinkable for its palate and ABV. Highly recommend.

Pours between a copper and gold hue. It's not as dark as most Märzens, more fest than Märzen. Smells of caramel, some semblance of noble hops. It's on the light end of Märzens, but it's got that heartiness and malt forward wheat bread character you expect. It's very clean, like most Jack's Abby beers. It has very light bitterness. Overall, this is the perfect early fall beer.
