Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Ancient timelines talk of dark days, plagued by hardships and Kingdom demands. When hope was all but lost, a legend emerged. A plumber. With copper pipes and an uncanny wit, he battled fierce foes and saw to the brewery’s opening. Our Octoberfest is malty, smooth and exceedingly drinkable. It is perfect to celebrate and honor today’s legends. We use locally grown wheat from MA, Munich malt and noble hops.

Visited The Nashua Garden today after a nice bike ride in the toasty weather. Drained some IPAs to relieve my cough, then opted to give this local OFest a shot... Got a 16oz pour... $5.00... good deal!

Clear, copper colored, with light carbo and a thin white head, it left a touch of lacing. Nose was malty and toasty, with some noble hops... Feel was medium... middle of the road all the way...

Flavor has lots of toasty malts and caramel.... a touch bready... then some sharp, spicy hop action... would like more breadyness, but still a well-made OFest... Prosit!

This was poured into a mug. The appearance was a semi-golden bronzed copper color with a nice transparency about it. Carbonation could be seen rising to fill a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute’s worth of white foamy lacing. The smell started off with a slight roasty nutty to caramel maltiness over a slight herbal/eh, maybe somewhat earthiness to it. The taste was mainly the same with a moderate earthy bitterness to balance. There’s a quick dry aftertaste. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable feel about it. Carbonation runs fairly light. There’s a fairly sticky smoothness about this one, good, nothing bad. Overall, for the most part, its a good Oktoberfest. I’d have again.

-in pint glass.
A: Light orangeish-tan, with a light clarity, misty haze of micro-suspended matter. A chalky white head is soapy with macro-bubbly, lapsing to a skim coating. Not much in the way of lace.

S: From the can, a nice scent of noble hops, fresh greenery against a sweetly toasted malt backing. Soft cola, sweet sugary malt, in the glass seems much more reserved.

T: Flavor is sweetly toasted malt, fresh noble hops. toasted grains, with a crisp flavor. Sweet and lightly dry, nicely balanced.

M: Lightly bodied, tingly carbonation texture, very well suited per style. Lightly creamy, crisp lager like.

O: Jacks Abbey continues to lead the way in lagers, and is probably one of the better made American style. A sure octoberfest favorite next to Hacker-Pschorr, outstanding flavor per style, sweet, very drinkable by the pitcher. Case worthy.

While I enjoyed another this season a bit more, this was my winner for best spot on representation. It had great balance with a thin layer of bitter before caramel finish. Nose was sweet for the most part as well. Not a ton of complexity but great depth.
