Style: American Double / Imperial Pilsner

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is an intensely hoppy and strong lager that we refer to as a Double India Pale Lager. Over four pounds of hops per BBL of New Zealand hops (Kiwi Hops) were used in progressively larger hop additions throughout the brewing process. Four kettle hop additions, whole leaf hops in the hop back, and multiple dry hop additions infuse an intense floral and citrusy aroma. No kiwifruit or kiwi birds were used in the production of this beer.

A: Poured from the half-growler into a Duvel tulip. Body is slightly hazy golden-honey with a small, thin film of grey-ish head.

S: Not a terribly strong nose - some tropical fruits, some ripe melon, some leafy greens.

T: Bready-doughy malt foundation, followed by tropical fruits - melon, grape skins and under-ripe pineapple. Finishes with a slightly crisp cleanliness. Bite of alcohol heat at the finish.

M: Medium in heft, with a slight slickness to the feel.

O: Good, but not awe-inspiring.

Not as fruity/citrusy as many New England IPAs, but tasty in that vein anyway. Softly bitter, in a good way.

Smells floral with a hint of orange, pours a gorgeous hazy orange hue.
Taste is dangerously drinkable. I get the citrus right off the bat, ending very smooth. With a slight pleasant bitterness that lingers. Kudos to Jacks Abby, This is an excellent example of an IPL.

Tasted blind, I doubt many people would call this anything but an ipa. The body is a little lighter I guess, but aside from that...

This is a fantastic New Zealand hop showcase. Pungent fruits, pineapple and lime comes to mind with relatively little bitterness. Had two last night, what a treat!

16oz can served in a tapered glass of some description. Beer pours orange and cloudy, with lots of big bubbles, and forms a large white head. Aroma is immediate and pleasant: peaches, cut grass. Very green, very fresh smelling. Slightly tropical. Flavor is hoppy and could pass for a double IPA. But way less bitter than I'd expect at 105 IBUs. The bitterness is punchy and fruity, suggesting pineapple.

The finish has a lagery crispness, even though this beer is decidedly heavy and carries some aftertaste. There's also a chewy, dirty mouthfeel, no doubt resulting from the lack of filtering (which also benefits the fresh hop character IMO). Those are the real giveaways that this is not a DIPA. But this definitely does not taste like a pilsner.

A unique and original creation from Jack's Abby. Recommended.

Pours an orange amber with an inch of head, leaves some slight lacing. Smell of citrus, lots of pine, musk, bit of menthol. Tastes of grapefruit, resin, malt, brown bread, pepper. Very balanced malt backbone, and a smooth mouthfeel. A delicious beer.

16 oz can poured into a pilsner glass

A- A slightly hazy golden amber with a two finger white head.

S- Biscuity/bready malts, citrus, faint tropical fruits, piney, hints of wet grass.

T- Citrus, some melons, wet grass, slightly sweet bready malts, floral/herbal, bitterness is a nice piney/earthy combo.

M- Smooth, medium body.

O- This is my first beer from Jack's Abby and it is a solid lager. Not the biggest fan of the wet grass the hops are giving it, but everything else is great.

Can poured into fluted snifter.

Golden pour, mostly clear, thick foamy big bubbled head, settles and rings the glass.

Herbal, vegetal, and biscuit aroma. Subtle citrus zest and a bit of earthy resins.

The flavor is headed by spicy herbal hops, bit of grapefruit bitterness and the lager aspects take control. Biscuit, yeasty, raw dough. Grassy notes floral hops play their part too.

Moderate carbonation and a medium body.

Heavy flavored lager, bold hops in the earthy/herbal/floral nature.
