Tap at Armsby Abbey

Big creamy 1+ finger head fades slowly with some lacing, very hazy nectar peach orange color.

Nose is loaded with fresh hops, a bit resinous and musty, then fresh tropical fruits, pineapple, peach, bit of grapefruit, hint of mango, light citrus with tangerine, and even a bit of pine. Also a hint of sweet malts.

Taste is loaded with more tropical fruit hops, again super fresh hops, a bit musty and resinous, light pine, then citrus fruits, light orange rind, tangerine, nectarine, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, etc. bitterness is there but not heavy at first, until it builds up. A light sweet malt base adds a good balance, with a nice soft base. After the big hop kick fades a bit I get a little lager crispness and soft flavors. Finish stays bitter with lots of lingering resins and tropical fruit hops, a bit more soft malt feel, and a bit crisp, more pineapple and guava even.

Mouth is med bodied, soft malts and almost creamy, good carb, no real alcohol kick.

Overall delicious, hard to get and lager flavors but got a little as I really tried, great tropical fruit hops, citrus, a bit resinous, nice soft malt balance. Very drinkable esp for 8.5%.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a very light yellow gold color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains floral hops, fruity kiwi & citrus, lager yeast and light caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a burst of grassy hops bitterness that is quickly followed by sweet flavors of kiwi, citrus and caramel. Then some breadiness comes in from lager yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a long time.

Slightly hazy, pale yellow pour, with a thin cap of bubbly white head that retained as a ringlet; light lacing. Grassy aroma, pine needles, distant biscuity malts, pretty stale overall. Major vegetal hop bitterness in the taste, the bitterness nearly blasting out all flavor and complexity in the brew; grass and pine-scented cleaner, ammonia, herbal tea. Body was light and watery, like lagery, but not fleshed out enough with malts to compensate for the overblown hop profile, and the higher almost soda-like carbonation wasn't helping either. "Messy" I guess is a good way to describe the beer. Between the people fawning over this when it was shared, and the high ratings it seems to get...I'm simply confused.

A: Pours a hazy yellow/golden color with a billowy white/foamy head with nice retention and sticky lacing down the sides.

S: Nice tropical fruit, some melon, and grapefruit with a bit of citrus zest as well.

T: A continuation of the aroma, plenty of citrus and tropical fruit, some grapefruit, a little pineapple, some orange, and orange zest.

M: Light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking.

O: Another great beer from Jack's Abby. Glad to have finally tried this one, and fruitier version of Hoponius.

Smooth, large, tight-bubbled head. The broth is very cloudy with a light gold color. Leaves ring lace after each sip.

Some pine hop aroma. Very little malt in the background.

Flavor wise, this is far closer to a Double IPA than a double pilsner. This is because of the strong citrus hop presence. Very bitter, even up front. Long aftertaste of black pepper. Relatively thin body with a high level of carbonation.

Huge thanks to jslot38 for grabbing me a bottle of this one; thanks Justin. Been a big fan of Jack's Abbey since visiting the brewery last year, and this has been a big want of mine since they first brewed it. 16.9 oz. bottle poured into my Bell's tulip, picked up in MA last week for $5.

a - Pours a somewhat transparent golden-bright yellow color with two fingers plus of fluff white head and high carbonation evident. Head lasts for several minutes and leaves a ton of lacing on the glass. Looks like a great pilsner.

s - Smells of pint hops, citrus hops, peanuts, grains, wheat, toasted malts, wheat, and light yeast. The hops are definitely up front, though I'm getting a lot of peanut that I wasn't expecting. Pretty nice, though a bit different than I was expecting.

t - The taste is great and exactly what I was hoping for. Tastes of a ton of dank pine hops and citrus hops, as well as grapefruit juice, floral hops, lightly tropical fruits, wheat, grains, and bready malts. Awesome taste; tons of hops and super fresh. Love it.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Smooth and crisp, and very easy to drink for 8.5% ABV. Was expecting more carbonation after looking at it but glad it isn't overcarbonated.

o - Overall I thought this was a great imperial pilsner. It looks great and has a great mouthfeel, and is very drinkable. The nose was good, though a little different than I was expecting due to some nuts in the smell, but the taste was fantastic and spot on. Tons of pine and citrus hops, would love to have this one again. Another winner from JA.

A - Strong haze on a bright apricot wheat body. Pure white, fine bubbled head has nice retention and awesome lace.

S - Light nose, but what's there is really nice. Lemon pith, parsley, white bread, and old wood tables.

T - Bread crust forward flavor profile with lemon zest and light parsley highlights. Touch of tangerine in the center.

M - Super smooth, slightly slick, medium frame.

O - Nice, smooth, well integrated, and easy drinking. Not sure if it's quite top 250 material though.

Hazy yellow body with a soapy white cap. Aromas of sourdough bread, lager yeast, citrus hops. A balanced beer, with sufficient hop character atop a robust malt bill. Light to medium bitterness. Tasty!
