BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Jack's Abby Brewing
Massachusetts, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial Pilsner

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is an intensely hoppy and strong lager that we refer to as a Double India Pale Lager. Over four pounds of hops per BBL of New Zealand hops (Kiwi Hops) were used in progressively larger hop additions throughout the brewing process. Four kettle hop additions, whole leaf hops in the hop back, and multiple dry hop additions infuse an intense floral and citrusy aroma. No kiwifruit or kiwi birds were used in the production of this beer.

Outstanding beer - definitely the best lager I've ever had. It looks familiar in that it resembles any well-made lager that you've seen before but certainly departs from the mold in aroma and taste. This baby is all hops in the nose but not overly so. Floral and herbal notes complemented by a citrus body with a dry lager finish. The bitterness of a big IPA is replaced by the grainy/malty finish of a lager. Great balance that that masks the ABV. Crisp from start to finish. Awesome combo that puts this beer at the top of JA's portfolio. Hands down.

Look: Perfectly translucent pale golden body with a light frothy head. Pretty much ideal appearance for the style

Smell: A bounty of tropical fruit: pineapple, guava, mango, floral, somewhat dank. The nose is complex, but I'm not really loving it. High ABV comes through slightly.

Taste: Pineapple, guava, citrus, floral, booze. This is good, but my goodness is it boozy!

Feel: A bit overcarboned for my preference, but fine for the style. Resinous, but way too syurpy.

Overall: I swear I don't remember it being this boozy, but I'd still recommend it.

L - Dark yellow, hazy body, two fingers of white head

S - Crisp lager scent, bready, mangoes, grapefruit

T - Tropical juice flavor and acidity, fresh hop oils and juice, big hop bitterness, white wine finish

F - Full-bodied yet crisp and refreshing. Carbonation moves the syrupy, imperial body along

O - Another great lager from Jack's Abby.
