Style: American Double / Imperial Pilsner

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is an intensely hoppy and strong lager that we refer to as a Double India Pale Lager. Over four pounds of hops per BBL of New Zealand hops (Kiwi Hops) were used in progressively larger hop additions throughout the brewing process. Four kettle hop additions, whole leaf hops in the hop back, and multiple dry hop additions infuse an intense floral and citrusy aroma. No kiwifruit or kiwi birds were used in the production of this beer.

This beer, among others from Jacks Abby, puts lagers back on the map. Such a smooth beer. Looks and tastes incredible. The name might throw some people off, but don't let it. Love that it is in 4 packs of tall boys now

Appears marginally cloudy gold. Smells of delicious crisp malts and fruity tropical fruit hops. Tastes of bitter citrus hops with no malt balance to speak of. Hoppier than many IPAs but with none of the bready crisp malt backbone I'm used to with IPLs. A good solid beer from Jacks Abby, and kind of true to the style, but I honestly expected a bit more delivery (and balance) on the taste.

16 oz. can dated 11/09/16

Pours foggy hazy gold with a creamy frothy white foam head. Smells like nutty biscuity caramel malt, kiwi fruit, gooseberries, grape, papaya, melon, passionfruit, guava, pear, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, orange, peach nectar, with resinous earthy herbal grass and peppery floral pine. Tastes like nutty biscuity caramel malt, kiwi fruit, gooseberries, grape, papaya, melon, passionfruit, guava, pears, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, orange, peach nectar, with dank resinous earthy herbal grass and peppery floral pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy and crisp with moderate low carbonation. Overall a real nice and intense DIPL.

As Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan once said: "This one's got all that stuff, all that stuff and more". As other reviewers have pointed out, there is a cream aleness to it, there is a definite hint of lagerness to it and then there are soft peppery hop notes too.

A pleasure to drink and explore all these facets (and more) as I drained my glass. (16oz can into pint glass.)

Poured from 16 oz can into pint glass. The kiwi scared me but the guy at the beer store convinced me kiwi was more in the name than the taste, he was right. First double IPL i have had and no surprise jacks nailed it. Really smooth citrus offering. Great job
