Style: American Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Deep golden in color, this low ABV lager balances Pilsner and Munich malt with an aromatic American hop aroma. This beer starts hoppy but finishes unexpectedly malty with very low bitterness. Impressively flavorful and drinkable for the lightest beer we brew. We dub this beer a "Session Lager," as we once again brew a lager in a beer style of its own. Uses local Soft Red Winter Wheat from Four Star Farms.

look - deep golden!

smell - malty and dank - mild smelling.

taste - slightly hoppy beginning that finishes with lots of orangy malt. not bitter at all

feel - smooth and sudsy. my alewife says it's got a nice bite in the back of the throat; not too soft.

overall - quite drinkable and tasty.

Crystal clear yellow/gold (SRM 4-6), with billowing carbonation that produces a ½” white froth, before settling to a ¼” lingering layer. Fine lace coats the hand blown pilsner.

The aroma has pronounced sweet honey/lemon, followed by modest caramel and light grains.

Bitterness is modest and balanced by a quick sweet bite. Lacks the signature crisp clean finish of the style, but has lots of caramel. White bread and a hint of apple are present in the middles, with coriander as it warms. The finish is modest yet lingering.

Explosive carbonation greets the palate, paving the way for a satin, almost nylon texture. Alcohol, though light is surprisingly present for a 4.5% beer. The body is medium to full, with a light astringency.

Jabby Brau is a fine sessionable beer, well suited to a tailgate party or other such occasions. With plenty of approachable flavors, this makes for a good gateway beer. I enjoyed it in the afternoon of a cool, cloudless, first Monday of September.

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner style glass.

Deep orange amber, to pale golden yellow body color. Real dark and impressive for a classic lager, with some mild amounts of carbonation, and a good simple two finger creamy head. Bit of staying power there as well, as it slowly settles to one finger.

Real big caramel sweetness, but with a clean aroma. Mild grains and a bit of light brown sugar quality to go with it. Not big on the hop angle, if very indistinct. Some mild clean grapefruit perhaps kicking out.

Palate is quite nice and simple. Clean caramel, almost bock like but considerably lighter in flavor and feel. Almost chewy body, but with lighter abv seems to come much easier drinking, but not wet or washed out which is a good feeling. Muted hop quality, but definitely more going for the malt angle which is done real nicely.

Reminds me of a sessionable lighter version of a bock, real solid brew.

On Tap. Pours deep golden with white head. Aroma is of bready malt and citrusy hops. Body is medium and crisp. Citrusy, piney hops and bready malt fill the mouth. Finish is long and bitter. Nice, easy drinking lager.

A very smooth and easy drinking lager. Nothing overly showy, but very well made. Easy to drink and very nice.
