We honor our Pops with this beer. His vision built the Leisure Time ice brand decades ago and inspired us to build Jack’s Abby as a family business. A subtle spiciness balances the citrusy and floral hops added to the whirl and hopback. Relax and enjoy! Leisure Time Lager uses locally grown wheat from MA.

Treated as a pale lager as that’s what it looks, smells and tastes like, this was poured into a pilsner glass. The appearance was a semi-hazy well built burnt yellow color with a slight transparency about it. Carbonation could be seen rising to fill a one finger white foamy head that dissipated nicely. Somewhat messy spider web lacing. The smell started off with the sweet orange peel and then lightens up into a subtle bitterness. Subtle floral chamomile components - somewhat crisp and eventful round it out. The taste was mainly the same - sweet first, subtle bitterness - floral and then grassy. Light wheat bite trying to make a presence in the aftertaste but doesn’t amount to much. Quick dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body. Seems like the wheat gives it a bit more - no worries, I like that. Subtle crisp sweet to bitter feels bumping over my tongue. Overall, hot damn, this stuff is really good. I want more cans to pound all Summer. Pass the brats and a baseball game!

On tap at the brewery. Served in tall skinny pilsner glass, which was a bit of fun. Got the wheat flavor, but mostly just a smooth easy drinker.

Had in a 4 beer sampler at Jack's Abby. The beer had a clear golden color with a thin ring around the glass. Aromas included some wheat and bread with some of that chamomile as advertised. Taste generally follows the nose with a somewhat watery mouthfeel and decent carbonation helping to make the drink refreshing. Overall, I enjoyed it for its refreshing qualities.

This beer pours a hazy bright golden yellow color with a one finger, fizzy, bright white head. retention and lacing are minimal.

Smell is wheat, toast, citrus, grass, floral and herbal hops and yeast.

Taste is the same. Lots of flavors going on here. Starts of with citrus and herbal hops then transitions to the wheat and toast flavor with a slightly yeasty finish.

Feel is light side of medium with high carbonation. Smooth, refreshing and easy drinking.

Overall a very good beer. Reminds me of a lager version of Oberon.

Serving: August 2016
Served: From the can

A quick review this time: I wasn't impressed with this beer. A spiced wheat lager is really abnormal, and I'm not entirely sold on the whole wheat lager thing. The lager nature of the beer, which normally imparts nice crisp crackeriness led this beer to fall a little flat. I feel like the flavor was there for a good wit, but wits feel a little rounder and more developed from the ale yeast.

A: The beer is hazy light yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that died down, leaving a patch of bubbles in the center, a collar around the edge, and a thin layer of bubbles on the surface in between.
S: Faint aromas of coriander and chamomile are present in the nose; these become a little stronger as the beer warms up.
T: The taste follows the smell, but has stronger flavors of the coriander and chamomile with additional notes of lemongrass and slight hints of the orange peel.
M: It feels just about a bit shy of being medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really liked the taste of this lager as it had an interesting mix of flavors, all of which were nicely balanced. It seemed like the body would have been heavier, but the wheat nicely lightened things up.
