Vanilla Barrel-Aged FraminghammerVanilla Barrel-Aged Framinghammer
Notes: Big, bold, black, and aged in bourbon barrels with vanilla beans. The lengthy conditioning period in the barrels creates a silky smooth chocolatey mouth feel enhanced by the use of oats and brown sugar. Noticeable sweetness gets balanced by roasted malt and hop bitterness. Additional flavors include bourbon, vanilla, and oak.

Purchased at the Bevie, price forgotten. Poured into a tulip glass.

A typical dark, dark brown/black, with a tiny bit of translucent red on the edge. A short, frothy dark mocha head appears and quickly dissipates, leaving no lace or ring of bubbles.

Aroma is straight up bourbon, with just a hint of vanilla and dark fruit.

Taste is also heavy on the bourbon, but not in a bad way. A nicely complex blend of dark flavors accompany the bourbon.

Mouth feel is excellent, not too viscous, easy to drink the entire bottle, very low carbonation.

Overall, a delicious barrel-aged Baltic porter.

Second thank you in two nights to quirk6. I’m going to tell my shrink about you & my problems shaking this alcohol thing. 500ML bottle all to myself!

My third barrel-aged Framinghammer, & the trembly giddiness hasn’t worn off yet, & there are now two more in the fridge. This one is dark brown with carbonation that quickly fades to the balding guy ring around the edges of the glass. Aroma brings toffee, nice shot of whiskey (smells more like whiskey than bourbon to me), & stronger vanilla. Not a bad start.

Framinghammer – Vanilla Bourbon Barrel Aged takes an attitude adjustment. It’s black! It’s big! It’s barrelly! It has lager yeast…wtf? OK. The vanilla & the barrel are lingering over one another’s bodies nicely, with the barrel lending additional forest, & enough alcohol to kill your average seventeen year old. Fleeting impressions of roasted bread, leather, fall nuts, lager yeast really sticks around through the Finnish. A touch thin, but that leads to a corresponding increase in drinkability. Picture me slumped over a bar in Jamaica, slurping on a straw, eyeing everyone suspiciously, while no one comes near our party. There might have been hallucinogenics involved.

Complex, tasty, bourbony, unique. What was I saying? Oh, yes, excellent.

Pours a chocolate color. Has a boozy aroma. Flavor is vanilla forward with a little booziness and nice chocolate note. Has a nice finish and overall delicious.

L - Same as all the Framinghammer series, jet black, milk chocolate head that dissipates to a ring around the glass.

S - Strong vanilla nose when opened, once poured the nose was somewhat boozy, more bourbon and the vanilla faded.

T - plug, fig, dates. the fruit really come forward on this one for me. the back end has that oaky/bourbon finish that makes the regular BBA Framinghammer such a hit for me. I'm not getting as much vanilla as say, a stone smoked porter w/ vanilla beans used to offer, its more subtle, on the back end with the bourbon.

MF - Rich, full, low carb. My favorite part of the series. So velvety and smooth. The finish is not as warm as the base is, likely due to smoothing out of the vanilla.

O - Hard to miss because the base is such a fabulous beer, but for me it fails to distinguish itself from that base enough. That being said it's wonderful. I may be too much of a dunce to pick up on the nuance.

This one was a letdown. I paid about the same price for this 16.9 oz bottle as I do for a 4-pack of the base beer. I think the base beer tastes better. The bourbon barrel taste isn't very noticeable, and neither is the vanilla.

So buttery, velvety, smooth, and delicious. The second variant of the Framinghammer family I've had thus far, and I hope to have them all. Put's many a BA stout to shame in the categories that matter. S-T-F-O, these are world class brews.

0.5 L bottle into pretty things globe...nice deep color - white rim/foam.
deep rich roasty chocolatey stout aromas with a noticeable vanilla sent.
Taste is perfect balance of vanilla and roasted chocolate. This beer is nearly perfect. Boozy as hell but drinkable as milk.
If you see it, pick it up...if you have it, drink it...if you want it, get it!
Amazing brew. (period)
