Poured from a bottle into a snifter, the beer is jet black, with a thin halo of light tan head. Aromas of rich vanilla, dark roasted coffee, subtle chocolate, brown sugar, and earthy highlights. Flavors are smooth and creamy sweet forward, a blend of chocolate and vanilla, with an immediate follow of rich roasted coffee and subtle char, solid booze notes, hints of earth and brown sugar sweetness, a touch of molasses, and some smoky accents. Very dynamic and layered palate, all on a rich, creamy, velvety body. The aftertaste is roasted coffee, vanilla, and bourbon, and it is perfectly balanced. Smooth, creamy, slow finish, with a solid boozy and roasted sweet linger. What a tremendous beer!

The look is a perfect deep black that might steal your soul!

The smell is one that I can best describe as a master's mix of hops and coffee!

The taste was a fair one of coffee and a mixed range of fruits.

The feeling was a smooth drink that is very drinkable.

Dark brown with a finger of tan head that dissipates to a collar.

Coffee and creamy vanilla aromas precede a very nice smooth, soft, round roasty malt--the scent is not harsh or overly charred, especially with the bourbon being completely undetectable on the nose. The coffee aroma develops into an almost fresh green coffee bean as it warms, whereas with most coffee brews, they normally become more pungent bitter and roasted. The aroma of this beer is just phenomenal.

Taste is at first a bit hot, with a greater oak presence. Soon after comes soft chocolate and a very good roasted malt element, quickly followed by a creamy froth of coffee, on the fruity side, with that creamy vanilla from the nose. There is a touch of nuttiness as well. I never get an impending sense of bourbon onslaught.

Everything here is so well balanced in the beer. While it thins out, as most barrel aged beers do, it only does so as it warms. An incredible accomplishment by Jack's Abby.

Mostly black, some dark brown elements in the pour. Aroma dropped 80% coffee and 10% bourbon, 10% roast in the divide of aromas.

Taste was exceptionally smooth. Oats and brown sugar do this nicely, allows the coffee to rock, but meld with the nuanced bourbon. The best baltic porter I've ever had.

This beer pours black in color with a full brown head that dissipates very quickly with next to no lacing. The smell is mostly coffee and chocolate with some bourbon mixed in. Very nice smell. The taste is coffee up front changing to bourbon booziness in the middle and finishing with a hint of chocolate. The body is lighter than expected but overall a really good beer.

T - Roasty with smooth coffee, burnt caramel, toast, vanilla, touch of oak, and pumpernickel bread.

M - Smooth, silky medium-light body with great drinkability.

O - A super accessible coffee porter with a soft, well integrated barrel character.

2016 vintage. Served cold in a teku

Appearance: black and kinda thin with a huge khaki head. Nice lacing

Nose: acrid coffee, chocolate, some oak, some alcohol

Taste: burnt coffee, char, dried fruits, some oak, creamy mouthfeel

Overall: the vanilla version was better; hands down. The coffee is a bit harsh and takes away from the delicious base beer. I really don't get the Bourbon or the barrel character. It's a very good beer but not world class IMO.

2016 Vintage
~2-3 months from bottling date

Appearance- Pours a black color, brownish hues when swirled, opaque. Half finger of lighter khaki colored head, soapy consistency. Tons of spotty head lacing and alcohol legs on glass.

Aroma- Rich coffee, espresso bean, earthy and spicy. Real sweet, smooth bourbon notes, oaky dryness. Sugary sweetness, chocolates, caramel, molasses, toffee, and vanilla.. Touch of roasted malt and barrel char.

Taste- Coffee bean, rich roast and earthy spice. Lots of oaky astringency, dried tobacco and spice, subtle bourbon notes. Chocolates, roasted malt, vanilla, brown sugar and caramel. Lingering oak and charred barrel.

Feel- Medium bodied feel, fairly creamy and very smooth but leaves a drying aftertaste. Lower carbonation.

Overall- Real nice barrel characteristics shine through. Offers more barrel flavors than bourbon, but the oak, char, and earthy spice is real nice. Coffee hits right up front, rich and roasty, and carries on through. Sweetness balances on the finish. Really nice barrel aged coffee beer.
