A: Pours a hazy reddish-brown. Big tall and fluffy tan head. Head fades at a moderate pace. Small but solid walls of lacing. Good retention.

S: Strong maple syrup up front with a quite a bit of smokiness to back it up. Some toasted malt too, like toasted bread. No real sign of the barrel.

T: Hmph, definitely some barrel here. Sweet caramel up front, mixing with maple syrup. A bit of smokiness joins it but only a little. Toasted bread in the finish with some smokiness, kinda leaves a burnt bread aftertaste with some caramelized maple syrup to boot. Fairly sweet overall if I'm honest.

M: Medium bodied, smooth.

O: Not a strong barrel presence in this one, but it makes sense. It could easily overpower a 6% beer. Smokiness is much less pronounced in the flavor than the normal version, which I feel improves the beer. The barrel's sweetness only furthers balances out the acrid smoke. Overall a better balanced and more complex brew. Much improved over the original. Very tasty.

Barrel aged maple lager pours a clear amber color with a small creamy head on top. The foam fades quickly leaving a few spots of lace on the glass.

The aroma is smokey with some caramel sweetness and a little maple. Like hard maple candy.

Each sip of this medium bodied beer is smooth, creamy with moderate carbonation. The flavor is like the aroma, smokey with caramel sweetness and a maple finish. Some oak and vanilla notes are noticed in the background. Hard maple candy finishes off each sip. Once gone the maple and smoke lingers on the palate.

I didn't get much barrel character from this beer. It seems like the regular version to me, with a touch of oak and vanilla. Still a tasty beer that is well balanced with smoke and sweetness.
