In the spirit of our local history we are revolting against the status quo. We are writing our own story by fueling the fire surrounding extra hoppy beers. We infuse Mass Rising with increasing amounts of American hops during the kettle, hopbock and dry hopping processes. Together, we have taken a journey to redefine the term 'lager.'

Thanks to WunderLlama for this one from a recent ninja box. 16oz can (dated 10/1/20) poured into 14oz teku. Poured a very hazy orangeish yellow color with an inch of white head that had good retention and extremely light lacing.
The aroma was hop forward, just a bit of malt/grain, with some cattiness and citrus notes.
Pretty similar on the tongue, with the cattiness subdued and the citrus being a bit brighter.
The body was medium, leaning towards full, had good carb, and a semi-dry finish.
Drinkability was good, and I'd like to have it again, but I don't think I'd want two in a row.
Overall, a pretty nice brew, and one I'd like to have again. Certainly worth trying if you see it.

Canned 10/1/20
From the innovators of the style, we have the second highest rated IPL on this site. I haven’t had many of the style, but Jack’s Abby usually hits home runs with this kind of thing, obviously
Pours a lightly cloudy orange gold with 3 fingers of white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves patchy lacing
Aroma-wise, this might as well just be a standard IPA, maybe a double. I think the only lager-like quality is the crisp freshness. I’m picking up on notes of general citrus, spicy hops, juicy mango, papaya, and crisp bready malt
The taste at least brings more of that clean lager yeast to keep things light. On the front end I’m tasting light pine, lemon peel, herbal hops, and a touch of pepper. The swallow brings notes of more floral hops, crisp malt, papaya, and light pithy grapefruit
Drinks unbelievably light for the abv, absolutely unreal. A light medium body pairs with gentle carbonation for a super refreshing beer. The finish is not quite dry, but also not sticky
An incredible beer here, I’m still amazed at how easy it drinks for 8%. I’ll definitely be revisiting this one again

355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8,0%, IBU 100. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Hazy golden colour, large white head. Lovely aroma of American hops, notes of tropical fruits, wood and pine, some malty notes too. The flavour has some malts and caramel sweetness, but is first and foremost hoppy, with fruity and piney notes, and a solid but not too extreme bitterness in the finish. In a blind test i would have guessed that this was a double IPA. Must be one of the better golden lagers I’ve had.

When fresh this has to be the best possible example of a very hoppy, very big lager. The only negative here is that the lager-ness gets fairly lost in the hops (could pass as an IPA) but it's still a fantastic beer. So much flavor start to finish. Absolutely delicious. yb

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short bright white head that left a collar around the edge and some wisps of bubbles on the surface.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of citrusy and tropical fruit hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of mangos along with notes of lemons and hints of herbal hops, the latter of which linger and become stronger in the finish. There is a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very aggressively hopped and has lots of aromas of tropical fruits and citrus but has the nice type of clean mouthfeel you would expect from a pilsner.
Serving type: can

Golden yellow in color with a heavy haze and orange hues. Poured with a short, creamy, bright white foam with medium low retention. Earthy, herbal hop aromas with sweet malty, bready and boozy notes. Medium bodied with medium light carbonation. Light creamy smooth feel with pleasant boozy warmth from the middle to the end. Medium herbal high hop flavors up front followed by medium bready malt. Medium light hop bitterness through the middle followed by sweet malt and expanding booziness. Finished with bready malt notes, light herbal hops, light booziness and mellow hop bitterness. Hop presence nicely balances the competing malty and boozy characters. Mellow, flavorful and pretty easy drinking for an imperial.
