A - Caramel honey brown with a explosive two inches of head. It took forever to settle and made some nice sticky lacing.

S - Smells like a hopped up ESB with herbal teas and maybe even some roasted nuts.

T - A bit hop forward but not as much as Anderson Valleys ESB. The tea flavor and herbal hops mixed well in this giving it a bit of a chestnut taste. It has a well rounded sweetness too with some dried apricot.

M - Light to medium, dry yet goes down smooth.

Overall one of the better ESB's I have tasted. It seems like everything I had from these guys has been amazing.

Had this one at House of 1000 Beers in New Kensington, PA.

Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint: Deep rust with half-a-finger of white head. Pale gold highlights.

Smells of bready malts, nutmeg, a little dry. Is there some prune in there?

Taste has kind of an odd combination of passion fruit, apricot, nutmeg & cinnamon, a little vanilla, dry fruit skins. Not bad but, like I said, just kind of odd & a little muddy.

Nice smooth feel, rolls down the throat, winds up slightly dry.

Not sure how to feel about this one overall. The taste has something kind of strange going on that I can't put my finger on. Would definitely try it again to see if they work out the kinks.

Sidenote: I got the privilege of naming this beer so it's got kind of a special place in my heart, can't wait to try future batches.

Helltown Extra Sinful Bitter (ESB)

LOOK: Deep amber colored brew with a fine clarity. Slightly off white head and leaves a good amount of lace.

SMELL: Caramel, pine, herbal, grassy hop notes and a bit more malt as it warms. Inviting and pleasing aroma that would indicate a well made brew.

TASTE: More toffee and caramel with a light fruity note. There is a complimentary hop presence of tea like, herbal hops. Well balanced with an even keel of caramelized malt and mellow hop bitterness.

FEEL: Medium bodied with a solid level of carbonation. Refreshing and easy to quaff.

OVERALL: This is one HELL of a session beer. If they served this in Hell, it wouldn't be as unbearable. Helltown is doing good work.

Poured on tap at Mad Mex, glowing deep amber body with a fine caramel tan head forming nicely. Minimal scattered lacing left on the pint glass. Aroma has a big biscuit/malt combo going on with earthy leafy hops, more of a delicate English malt profile even though it's Extra Sinful. Flavors provide big malt layers, more caramel and bread dough dance across the palate, earthy tobacco hints of tea leaves as well come to mind when describing the hop flavors provided here. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with even slow bubbling carbonation, seems almost naturally fermented, very smooth going down. Overall I'm happy with this well made ESB, definitely my favorite brewery on the scene in the Burgh these days that I can't get anywhere else.

Coppery with slight hop haze. Thin layer of head. 3.5

Caramelly toasted grains and muted hops with an earthy character. Was expecting more. 3.0

Roasty toasty with some minor hop bite. Piney and earthy, a little watered down. Grains, but no fruit. More toastiness in the finish. 3.5

Exceptionally balanced with a great drinkability. Smooth, silky body and a nice little burp after the gulp. 5.0

A decent ESB. Props to the up and coming local brewery. 3.5
