Rolling Meadows Farm Brewery
Illinois, United States

Style: Dunkelweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): not listed

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
This seasonal dunkelweizen is made with our artisanal water, wheat, caripils barley, fresh hops and yeast. Just before brewing, we hand-pick our farm grown hops. We add the fresh wet hops at the end of the brew process to give it a grassy, herbal note. In the glass, it has a creamy, malty head and rich brunette color.

The Fresh Hop Slam was good.....another solid offering by RMB. It poured a murky brown with little head and no lace. The scent was true to Belgian form. The taste carried bananas foster and hints of clove. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with subtle carbonation. Overall it was nice.

a: murky reddish brown body with a thin off white head. no lacing noticed.

s: bananna and clove, wheat bread aroma, a light fruit and spice aroma also noticed.

t: a little spice from the clove and whatever else was in there. banannas and bread. not much hops for being a fresh hop beer. a little earthy on the finish.

m: a little thin, could use more carbonation. could also use more bite from the hops, very little bitterness.

o: kinda disappointed in this one. they make nice beers but are stuck in a comfort zone with this hefe style of beer for many of their experiments. wasn't a bad beer by any means, still drinkable. just wish they would try something different.

Auburn reddish brown color, darker on top and lighter on the bottom when poured in a weizen glass. Thin layer of offwhite foam on the surface that breaks apart after a few sips, no lacing to speak of.

Estery aromas of clove, bubblegum, and apple spice. Wheaty minerals in the background.

Light clove and wheat flavors, smooth and medium bodied after the yeast is poured in, but initially was a bit astringent with biting carbonation. Hops aren't very noticeable in the mix, but there's a little bit of greenery in the background and a mild bitterness in the aftertaste. The beer is pretty good, but for a simple style, it's not worth the premium price of $15/32 oz.
