Can to tulip, the appearance was a bronzed copper transparent color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off fairly quick. Adequate foamy lace stuck to the glass nicely.
The aroma centered around some sweet danky onion to some sweet papaya/mango sort of thing going on. Some light sweet grass and a little pineapple came out nicely.
The flavor seemed to lean towards the sweet side initially and then engulfed a tranquil sticky bitterness from the tropical notes. That danky onion came back with some grip on the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Some dryness in the finish.
Overall, nothing to go bonkers about, but steady as she goes, it does the trick.

22oz bomber served in Alchemist bar glass.

A: Hazy light amber. 3/4 finger head fades quickly to near zero foam. Zero carbonation movement. I really mean zero. Not a bubble to be seen. Patchy lacing. <3>

S: Lemon citrus, almost like pine-sol, in a good way. Grassy. <3.75>

T: Subtle to noticeable citrus with a predominance of bitterness. Nearly no malt is tasted. Some sweetness would have been nice to accentuate and reinforce the subtleties of the brighter flavors. Dry finish. Leaves a bitter tart flavor in the back of your throat. Maybe a hint of banana? The hoppiness is a bit one dimensional. It needs some more malt. <3.75>

M: Very fine carbonation. Dry finish followed by mouth watering from the bitterness. Not a "I want more and I'm drooling" water, a "my mouth is responding to bitter" watering. For a DIPA the body is thin, not necessarily bad, but thinner than others. <3.25>

O: I don't hate it. I won't buy it again. If you want a hop-bomb, you can get more from dynamics from other brews. If you want complexity and balance, you can definitely get more somewhere else. The beer is drinkable and enjoyable, but I won't visit it again. <3> - average.

Eggshell white head; two fingers thick. Leaves streaky lace off each ring. Mild haze chill haze to the golden color with a touch of green tint.

Lots of pine and grapefruit rind to the nose. Powerful even as a bar pour.

Flavor is strongly bitter--there's no balance to this beer. The body trends toward the thin side; the carbonation above average. The finish is similar to sucking a hop pellet. IPA drinkers will love this beer that borders on the extreme.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #77 (June 2013):

LOOK: Bright, gold, thick, massive white foam head with stick and lace

SMELL: Big pine, citrus skins, herbal, resin

TASTE: Semi-viscous, creamy, grapefruit, pine, tropical fruits, melon, sweet malty backbone, bready, resiny, leafy, dry, aspirin

This liquid homage to Samuel Adam’s Hop Sharing program, which provided Backlash with Citra and Simcoe hops, is one hell of a DIPA. While it’s packed with hop character, and it provides a good kick in the palate, it remains flavor focused, and is surprisingly balanced and highly drinkable.

Pours a light copper, mostly clear, two finger head with nice retention and good lacing.

Aromas of apricot, pine, orange, peach and grapefruit. Sweet malt. Somewhat floral and earthy.

Taste follows the nose, big peachy stonefruit and some sweet orange, nice resinous pine and grapefruit. Moderate bitterness.

Medium to full bodied, sticky, sharp carbonation, some alcohol, finish between sweet and dry.

Tastes and feels like a west coast IPA but the stonefruit flavors are more prominent. It's a tasty bitter DIPA, I like the stickiness too, alcohol is a little hot comparatively.

A-Pours a cloudy honeyed hue. A giant head forms and grows. It also refuses to leave. It isn't too generous with its lacing.

S-Oily, catty and onion. Rotted citrus flesh. Very oniony, almost like eggplant or asparahus; its cool. The malt really hides behind the eccentric hoppiness; its there but only because it needs to be.

T-Becomes a bit more normal here. Citrus is bright and lively. The cat piss and onion are softened out. Tangy grapefruit and a bitter grassy finish. Malt is still subdued but it donates much more here than in the nose. Check that, as it warms it becomes quite balanced.

M-A bit boozy. High bitterness. Booze dries and the bitterness grips the palate. Yet, the flavors are enough to combat the coerciveness of then beer.

O/D-Not a fan of the label art or the entire mantra of Backlash. A silhouette of a bro with a flat brim hat is not very appealing but these guys are decent brewers. This is a pretty tasty DIPA, I'm a sucker for those.
