Black, thin head, light lacing. Smell is the malt used, hint of coffee. This is a very dry beer, the hops come through lending a bitterness. Not real heavy but a good wintertime sipper none the less. Very dry

Received in a trade with maximum12. Pours dark as night with a thin layer of tan foam that fades into a ring. Taste is dark roast with coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. For a 7% abv the alcohol is almost imperceptible. Goes down smooth with a pleasant aftertaste.

pours black with a tan, cascading head that sticks to the glass. exactly what i like to see.

nose is pretty simple here. roasty notes are the first thing i get.

taste is cocoa with roasted malt.

pretty clean mouthfeel on this one - goes down rather rich but doesn't coat the mouth. there's a touch of lingering roasted bitterness on my tongue, but not unpleasant.

overall, just a good brew.

Pours dark and appealing.

Aroma subtle notes of roasted grain and chocolate.

Taste follows with roasted malt and light milk chocolate with a touch of bitter coffee and hops.

Fairly creamy mouthfeel.

L: A black pour crowned by a 1” dense light brown foam collar. S: faint roast, cocoa, chocolate. T: Rich malts balance light roast flavors supported by grainy flavors. Initial cocoa transforms into espresso with a lingering coffee bitterness. While there is a touch of char, it is not harsh and is balanced by the malt. F: Very creamy, smooth and rich with a medium full body and soft carbonation. O: A flavorful, drinkable stout.

Appearance: Pours fudge brown with a nice bubble show that settles into a two-fingered tan head; the retention is excellent as well as is the lacing

Smell: Roast and chocolate, with earthy/hoppy tones

Taste: Both the roasty elements from the malt and the bitter aspect of the hops come through from the outset, and the balance continues from start to finish; there is some coffee, caramel and pine in the mix, as well

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Steel Toe sends me again; It is hard to think of this as an Export Stout but I can see why others have objected to calling it an ABA; Steel Toe has chosen to dissent from being categorized by calling it a "dark ale"

Thanks, DaftPatrick, for the opportunity
