Spicy, herbal hops dominate the nose with citrus and caramel malts. Pours reddish chestnut with a slight haze under a lacy 2” off-white foam cap. Attacks with a rich, malty palate with anise to cola spice, citrus and orange that lead to a grapefruit rind bitter finish. A very creamy big bodied beer that finishes surprisingly well balanced

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Reaching two finger head, of yellow to light tan color. Soapy pock marked top with a good amount of retention and staying power. Body is classic amber red, fairly clear with very minimal carbonation. Quite clear also, but very dark. Pretty nice looking.

A nice simple example of amber red. Classic toasty balanced mixed of clove spice, sweet brown sugar and caramel. Not too dry or overly sweet. Hop angle is fairly buried and not forward, with a nice ripping dry grain crackling note to match. Solid.

Really nice amber. Surprising hop forward action unexpected but letting the sweet caramel action come through. Hop has it's distraction a bit with some pine and sharp grapefruit oil, but the malts manage to come back with some real good coating caramel brown sugar sweetness. Lingering bitterness and definitely with a steely grapefruit quality. Chewy mouthfeel a bit, with some matching dry toasty notes of grain as well.

Overall really delivering nicely on the amber front, with a surprising unexpected hop kick. A very good amber.
