33cl Bottle: BBD Dec 2014. Poured (at home) into a Duvel glass during Jul 2013.

Half way through the pour huge sediment pieces began to shoot out the bottle with the beer: once fully poured it looked awful and even after getting a sieve out to decant again it was obvious I'd end up with a mass of floating grist in my glass. A big disappointment as I'd had this bottle in my stash for awhile and was looking forward to it.

Anyway the orange body was full of 'bits' and even though I allowed it plenty of time to settle it refused to even consider the idea.

The beer had a decent enough nose: yeast (obviously with it all in the glass), fruity and interesting.

The taste was not as interesting or decent though: sweet and 'bitty' is the best I can come up with.

I've tried to score objectively, but I don't really think this would have scored highly even if it had been clear, bright and less murky.

A golden beer with a settling head and a moderate carbonation.

Smell of ripe bananas, peach and other exotic fruits. Some notes of vanilla and honey. It reminds somewhat of a wheatbock.

Taste is fruity with what appears as wheat. A fresh, grainy and a little musty taste. Together with the ripe bananas this reminds of a Weizen. Bitterness is quite low for a tripel. This is an odd beer. The low carbonation makes the beer a little less fresh and accentuates the somewhat sweet and syrupy body.

330 ml bottle, with a cap and neck wrapped in golden foil. Poured into a tulip glass at home. ABV 8,2% Deep orange golden body, with lots of tiny floating bits in it. Big white and soapy head, low retention. No lacing left behind. Aroma is fruity, with lots of apricot, very obvious alcohol smell, light yeast and rye, and hops. Taste follows the nose, again very fruity, a bit more yeasty now, the rye more notable, spices too. Overall a sweet taste, but pleasant. The alcohol bites just a tiny bit on the fnish. Medium body, average to high carbonation. Overall, nice beer. It seems a bit dull at first, but it’s real strength hides on the finish, where it surprise you pleasantly.

Bought this bottle (750ml) at de bierwinkel in Breda. Let's see how this goes.

A: Pours a decent head that quickly diminishes. Alot of carbonation going on in this beer. I did a rather carefull pour but still got a hazy beer, strange.

S: First smell is the malt, hints of fresh apple and other sweet fruits like grapes and peaches.

T: Again sweet and spicy upfront. Malt and a little alcohol in the back. The carbonation is quite nice.

M: Good body, nice carbonation going on. The carbonation masks the sweet taste a bit.

O: A good tripel, nothing mindblowing but it's a good take on a tripel, I'd serve this to friends on a warm eveningnight.

On my tripel kick of of Belgium, it's refreshing to know that any deviation from the traditionally known varieties and a chance at a newly inspired and fresh brewing technique is alive and well. Malt sugars, fruit, spice, and strength are all delivered in a refreshing and zesty tulip that sustains me for the time being.

The beer opens brightly with a glowing burnish gold color that's modestly diffused by a yeasty, wheaty haze. Well capped with a maringue of white mousse, the beer retains most of the session and laces boldly at first until the bready sweetness and extra weight pulls the foam character under.

Juicy and bright summertime fruit aromas of apples, pears, cantelope, mangos, and apricots fill the nose with the accompaniment of mild peppery spice, dried orange peel, alcohol, and a dash of mint. The fruity-spicy balance bounces delicately from the sturdy scent of honey, caramel, fresh wheat bread, and doughy yeast.

The vivid and zesty character continues in taste as the malt sweetness and starch provides a broad taste to the mouth before the middle palate introduces first the fruity taste of citrusy lemons, oranges, tropical melons and apricots, apples, pears, and mild banana. The spicy balance of pepper, coriander, curacao, and clove penetrate the strong malt support and match that of the estery fruits for a strong complement to the perfumy scent of the nose. Firm herbal bitterness stems from the delicate oils of honey suckle hop character and highly floral aromas to match the honey-like sweetness.

Strongly malted for a tripel, the beer engulfs the mouth with barley starch and wheat sweetness. The beer's creamy weight extends well into the finish before the fruity acidity, peppery bite, and hop bitterness, and alcohol dryness rapidly shuts the sweetness down at finish. A moderate linger of fruit, spice, and herbal bitterness takes you into the next sip.

Fairly robust for a tripel, the beer denies the classic champagne-like carbonation and semi-dry palate but never relinquishes the balance of fruit to spice, and its saving grace- the bold hop bitterness to close.
