Hey! PumpkinHey! Pumpkin
Notes: As the leaves change and cooler weather signals the arrival of fall, Hey! Pumpkin is a celebration of the season. This pumpkin brew has a gorgeous copper hue resulting from the bushels of real pumpkin used in the mash. With a nose full of cinnamon, nutmeg, and spice, she is an autumn melody that will have you reaching for your sweater.

Pumpkin?, Nothing, But, Spices

Cloudy copper with a very thin lace, Hey! Pumpkin has lots of pie crust and pumpkin pie spices in the nose. A bit creamy on the palate, and a bit sweet, with baked doughy malts, the typical bag of pumpkin pie spices, a hint of bitterness and a dry, crackery edge. It falls a bit flat flavor-wise though. Not only are they quick lived, but it's all spice, with a very thin malt backbone and no significant pumpkin flavor. Fairly average and hard to distinguish from too many other Pumpkin Ales.

As reviewed in BeerAdvocate magazine #107 (December 2015).

12 oz can. Pours hazy dark golden orange with a fizzy off white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is heavy perfumey pumpkin spices (cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg) that quickly dissipates.

The flavor is sweet bready malt with a little fruit and a lot of pumpkin spice. It's a bit watery and washed out with some metallic notes. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, not a great pumpkin beer.

Amber in color with lots of minuscule particles floating within the body, giving it an overall haziness. A fingernail of khaki foam covers the majority of the top of the beer. Aroma is comprised of nutmeg, cinnamon, and pumpkin. The flavor is largely that of an ale with cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin and light malt. There's a thin watery feel to this.

A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a pretty, hazy, burnt orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of pumpkin, light spices. Taste is the way I like a pumpkin beer, pumpkin up front, spices in the background. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

A chill haze gives this beer a nice creamy honey color to light. Hazy, could be mistaken for a wit or other wheat beer. The smell is dominated by nutmeg, but you can find hints of creamed pumpkin, tea, cinnamon and various other "pumkin-y" spices. Taste doesn't take much of the pumpkin with it, turns into more of a spiced amber ale. Okay, there's some authentic pumpkin in the finish, but overall, the taste it sort of the low point. Not good, not great. I'm picky with pumkin beers, so it's hard for a brewer to do something I really like.

A totally decent beer that absolutetly makes me think of Colorado autumns. But it's just not a big hit with me.

i think its a lot more dynamic from the tap than it is from the can, but an impressive amber type pumpkin malt forward rather spiced fall brew. these guys have done a nice job expanding with packaged beer, and their stuff looks good, but it tastes less good than it used to, all of them. this has a nice rich malt base, sweet with maple and honey notes, and a lot of cinnamon, overpowering the other seasonings in the blend. carbonation is way up, which makes this drinkable for its seasonal heaviness. pumpkin as an actual vegetable is less obvious, but i think it adds some starch and protein to the beer, which is needed to stand up to all the flavor, which lasts long through the finish. reminds me of a poor mans eddyline pumpkin (which might take the bacon two years running). quite good, not unreal. glad their beer is out there like this though, good for them for embracing the opportunity. somewhat drier and even a hint bitter on the finish, didnt see that coming. a good one for early fall, as its a bit lighter and more drinkable. maybe not sturdy enough for true fall...

edit: either the spices have been ramped up a lot this year or my tastes have changed, but this seems way overdone to me now, and i had trouble even with a single can. i wanted to like it, but it really seemed so overly spiced as to hardly be drinkable. leaving scores in tact for now...

A: The beer is clear dark orange amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of pumpkins are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional hints of pumpkin spices - nutmeg seems to stand out in particular.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has nice aromas and flavors of pumpkin without being overdone by the pumpkin spices. It is very easy to drink.

Poured from a can into a pub glass.
Appearance - a clean orange with a gorgeous meteor show of carbonation bubbles. A medium, bubbly white head forms and leaves stellar lacing.
Smell - pumpkin pie filling and cinnamon.
Taste - nice, but little substance. Pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon.
Feel - way too light and lacks complexity; enjoyable, nonetheless.
Overall - really my first venture into pumpkin ales, so my ratings could be off; either way.
