A 1/3 pint from a keg at Pivni in York. Reviewed from notes. This bar received one of the six kegs to make it into distribution. An unexpected surprise - I'd hoped to try it but thought the opportunity had passed. Triple IPAs don't turn up every day....

Poured into a narrow tulip. A translucent amber hue with plentiful carbonation. Yields a small head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a thick surface layer. Some lacing. Aroma of intense, pine-laden hops with notes of resin and dank weed. Underpinned by rich, sweet caramel malt with hints of barley sugar and stewed hops. A warming whiff of booze in the background. Boom!

Tastes of very sweet caramel malt with a powerful hoppy character and a stunningly bitter finish. The malt borders on cloying. Notes of pine resin, dank weed, barley sugar, caramel and stewed hops. A hint of faint earthy yeast in the background, along with a major whiff of warming alcohol. Highly astringent, with a consuming hop bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, thick and tingly, with pleasant carbonation and an unctuous, velvety body. The hop oils tantalise the palate and dry it thoroughly. A lingering aftertaste of pine resin, bitter stewed hops, sweet malt and alcoholic heat.

A huge beast of a brew - takes no prisoners. No half-measures here; a tsunami of sweet malt, pine and warming booze assault the senses. It looks great and the body is satisfyingly substantial. The hop character is vibrant but rather one-dimensional - more citrus/fruity notes would have added depth. However, given the strength I can see how pine does a better job of balancing the alcohol. Lighter and subtler hop notes would have left this beer hotter and lop-sided. A stiking effort; not something I'd want to drink every day but I'm glad to have tried it while it was fresh. Worth sampling if you have the chance.

On tap at CBC 2016 - day 2. Grapefruit, tropical fruit, flowery hops and honey. Nice mouthfeel, very easy to drink.

Imported from RateBeer:

"Definitely my favorite Magic Rock Brewing beer thus far - reminds me of a perfect mix between an IPA and a barley wine. Very fruity, almost syrupy, although it doesn't taste as though it is 11 - 12%. "

There's not much that I dislike about this beer. Perhaps the only downside is that it is dangerously drinkable!

Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2017, red session. Really dank and juicy aroma with ripe melon and mushy peach notes. Taste is sweet at first with dank notes like chives and onion. Some green hop bitterness on the finish.

Sampled from a 660ml bottle while in London. Date is best by Sep 2013.

A - Golden with a slight haze and a small white head. Some lacing.

S - Wow! So much tropical fruit and citrus! It must have taken a boatload of American hops to make this brew.

T - Rich hop oils, moderate tropical fruit hop flavors and a firm yet balanced kick of alcohol. But the 12% is well hidden. I tend to like smaller IPAs but this one has my attention. This is a big, complex beer yet everything comes together and works as a whole. If anything, it could use a bit more bitterness to help with the finish. But I like this one a lot.

M - Creamy and smooth with a nice low carbonation. The perfect delivery for the flavors.

O - As a terminal hop head, I'm tough on IPAs but this is a great beer that would sell well in CA or any other part of the US.

500ml can served in a tulip. 05/08/17 printed on the based of the can. Pours an apricot hue with a hazy clarity and a loose, quarter inch, off-white head that quickly dissipates towards the edges leaving a soapy froth across the center. Nose expresses candied citrus as fellas an earthy/resinous character. Taste consistent with nose with the addition of some ethanol that comes out at the finish. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with an even carbonation and a mild acidity. Overall, my favorite cannonball beer. Top notch!

From Zombier. In Teku glass. Watching Los Soprano 6x21. Too much alcohol in mouth here for my liking. I prefer the human cannonball much more. 3 months before bb date. Repeat fresher.
