Cerveza Nacional de la Capital is a salute to our Latin American neighbors and their influences on the American beer world. Affectionately known as Cerveza Nacional, its our take on a dark, malty, creamy, smooth and slightly roasty Vienna Lager. Salud!

A) Pours with a big head from the growler. Tan colored head. Settles slowly, leaving a sticky lacing along the edge of the glass. Opaque body.
S) Smoky. Caramel.
T) Rich malty flavor. Caramel. Nutty. Smoky. Noticeable hop bite in the finish.
M) Medium light body. Alcohol warmth in the finish.
O) A delicious brew. Glad I bought a growler!

So here is the kicker, as I'm driving a little beer tour through DC with my wife we end up in a neighborhood whos ethno-demographic prompts me to drop a joke about the reason they call the brewery "Chocolate City". Not a very PC joke mind you. And as soon as we arrive, Ben, the head brewer I believe, tells us that is precisely the reason it is named Chocolate City. Welll there you go.

I get a plastic cup pour out of a red cooler holding liquid magic. It is a "Black" Vienna Lager, yet it portrays the same animosity found in a delicious stout. Huge roasted malts come off the nose and ply the tongue. Chocolate, and red beans hit home as well. Thick medium bodied beverage coats the tonge and allows one to truly enjoy a small business' made w/ love product.

I'm not too certain if they bottle yet as they have only been around for less than a year, but if you can, visit on a Saturday.

Long lasting head whIch leaves plenty of spotty lace. Much darker than expected--brown in color and clear.

Mildly sweet with a tendency to toasted malts. Biscuity.

Surprisingly bitter. The sweetness is still present but in the background. Smooth, round body with an appropriate level of carbonation. Short lived aftertaste. Very different on many levels.

Had on tap tonight at RFD in Washington, DC at their launch party. Served in a pint glass.

a - Pours a very dark brown, almost black, color with one inch of dark tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks pretty nice.

s - Smells of roasted malts and chocolate malts predominantly. Pretty nice and roasty.

t - Tastes of light, sweet chocolate malts, roasted malts, and some sweet fruit. Very enjoyable and a step up from the nose.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation, but their most carbonated beer of the night.

o - Overall this was by far and away their best beer. Lots of roasted notes in the nose and taste and the taste was a bit chocolatey and sweet as well. Would definitely like to have again.
