A friend tipped me off on this place, and she didn't lead me wrong! The man knows his beer, and had bottles stuffed into his little place you'd never score at Specs, even if you stand in line before they open. I almost hate to rate this place, as it is the definition of a secret honey hole. I'll be making a beeline here next time I cross the Sabine!

Maybe it's the fact that I grew up in Beaumont, Texas; but it's hard for me to believe that a convenience store has this kind of selection of craft beer. I have Googled beer in Friendswood before, and this corner Shell kept coming up. I thought nothing of it, I've stopped to get gas there but never went inside.

Well today I got off work and stopped to get gas. For what ever reason I had cash, so I went inside to prepay. Low and behold, a plethora of Bombers and 750ml bottles lay before me. I was amazed, so I had to look. Now this place appears to be run by a couple of Asian gentlemen, so I wouldn't expect much knowledge on the subject. Not that I have anything against Asains, or that they're not into craft beer, that's just not the impression I got.

I ended up with a bottle of Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet 1.5, I can't remember ever seeing Clown Shoes around here. Now that being said, they are a little pricey. If Spec's has the same beer, you'd be better getting it there. But they do carry thing's I've never seen at Spec's.

So, all in all, if your in the area and looking for something you haven't seen, check this little Shell station. But expect to pay convenience store prices. If we had better local beer stores it might not be worth it, but with things the way they are around here, I'll take what I can get.

Edit: I met the young man who is responsible for their selection of beer. He's quite knowledgeable and very friendly and, like many of us, gets very excited and is enthusiastic about the beer he sells. It may be a little higher than Spec's price wise, but I think given the personable nature of the gentleman there I'll be visiting much more often. If you're in the area, check it out for sure.
