Vengeful Heart is an American-style Barleywine with big tropical fruit flavors and aromas from some of out favorite American hops - Simcoe, Citra, and Mosaic. This huge hop bill is supported by a backbone of caramel, toffee, and dark fruit flavors from a blend of four different crystal malts. Vengeful Heart has a deep ruby color, full body, and a caramel finish. Vengeful Heart should be stored cold and consumed fresh.

Pours a very, very hazy burnt amber, nice fluffy head. Big seeet aromas of citrus, mellon, lemon. Delicious - quite sweet, very malty, some dankness. I like it better when it sits for a few months. When you drink it fresh, it is a total hop bomb. Age it a few months and the hops mellow a bit and let the malt profile shine.

Update:
Just cracked a bottle of the 2016 vintage. Pours a deep red/copper color, big light tan foamy head. Still smells hoppy, but there is a good amount of sweet caramel in there as well. Hops have faded and the caramel malt is on stage here. Sweet and sticky, really delicious. Carbonation is intact. Totally enjoyed this 2 year old bottle.

Update - 2/14/2020
New format, new beer.
This is a wry different beer than before. Clocking in at 10.2% and $8 / 500ml bottle.
Pours a very dark reddish copper with ample tan head. Pours very thick and syrupy. Hops are subdued, lots of caramel, resin, simple syrup. Loads of sweet malts here - this is more of a barleywine than the previous recipe. Caramel, burnt sugar, touch of bitterness. Body on this one is amazing - so thick, rich, full bodied, and syrupy. Overall a good upgrade, need to buy another bottle.

Thank you thebeers for this
16 oz can, dated 2/11/19, poured into a teku

A- A murky brown with a two finger light tan head.

S- Hoppy, piney, some citrus, roasted malts, some stone fruits, some caramel.

T- Hoppy, citrus, touch of tropical fruits, some pine, roasted malts, caramel, some stone fruits. Flavors are all over the place.

M- Smooth, medium to full body.

O- An interesting barelywine, but I think it needs more time for the hops to calm down. I think dry hopping with citra and mosaic did not help this.

Solidly opaque caramel brown. If not for the puffy tan head leaving wobbly sticky lace, it'd looked like a glass of pecan pie filling.

Taste is appropriately hoppy, slightly woody and piney with lightly pungent resin and a slight orange rind sharpness. It's all so uniquely balance for this day and age, as notes of toasted shortbread biscuit and Werther's lightly accent the background of the medium-thin body that's filled by a slow to rise firm fizz, finishing semi-dry. Smell is a little more herbal and rooty than taste but is otherwise in harmony with it.

This is hard to describe, but is a really well rounded American barleywine with a mild heat all around.

It pours a murky and gross-looking brown with a canned pumpkin pie-filling hue. Close to a finger of solidly-tan head lasts a decent while for the style and leaves thick lacing.

It has a very fruity aroma. Pear fruit cups, apple and some fainter mixed tropical fruit stand out most. There are hints of caramel and pine beneath.

The taste features toasted bread and caramel, more of the pear and some light and lingering piney bitterness in the finish.

The mouthfeel is very full and creamy. It seems still at first, but does have some slow-building carbonation to it. This is my favorite aspect of the brew.

It seems like they’re trying to do a New England-style barleywine hybrid with this, but for me it’s a miss. It’s not awful, but it’s missing the malt complexity — and the pear and tropical fruits seem out of place. The label says to store cold and drink fresh. I’m going to sit on my other can a year or two and see if the flavors meld any better with time. 2/11/19 canned on date.

Appearance: Pours with a nice bubble show that lifts a two-fingered beige head that presides over the mahogany liquid; sheets of lacing form

Smell: Caramel tones buttress the stone fruit, berry and pine aspects; nectarine and blackberry are noticed

Taste: The pine tones emerge forcefully and blend with the caramel; nectarine and blackberry tones join in, somewhat meekly, through the middle; after the swallow, the pine dominates the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: Despite the brewer's admonitions to drink fresh, I prefer my barleywines with a bit of age, to mellow out the hops and allow the malty complexity to emerge; this 750 is likely a couple of years old and the hops are still quite strong - I can only imagine how aggressive this beer must drink when fresh

Dark brown in color with khaki head that retains well.

An aroma of raison and overall fruity sweet nuance.

Taste has caramel malt with bitter resinous hop bite lingering with bitterness and toasted grain appeal.

Medium in body with ligit carbonation. Not bad.

This is an alright beer. Not one of Kane's better offerings, but I can see what they were going for. Here goes:

A: Reddish-brown. Pours an OK head that leaves a lot of lacing. Very cloudy and emulsified, however.

S: Very light - not typical for a barleywine. Can smell cherries and caramel - very light, however. Can tell this is going to be sweet.

T: Very boozy. Much more flavor than indicated by the smell. Lots of caramel, toffee, and syrup. There's an off flavor, however - it doesn't really tasted as refined as a typical barleywine. I don't know what this flavor is, but it's somewhat offputting.

F: Thick and syrupy. Again, very heavy.

O: Alright, probably would not have again, though.
