Cortijo is a Tequila barrel-aged Saison. We used the same malt bill as Nom de Plume but added agave nectar to the kettle. Once it fermented with the same yeast blend we aged it in Tequila barrels for six months. The result is a beer with subtle Tequila flavor, floral notes from the agave and a slight earthiness from the barrel.

Not the tequila bomb you would expect, which I like. Just a touch of tequila in the body of flavors, with a sweetness and tartness both coming from the agave nectar. Really well done, has a nice oaky vanilla flavor that is pleasant as well.

Pours a cloudy light amber color with a touch or orange, nice foamy white head that slowly disappeared. Nice slightly funky aroma that I usually associate with a saison, faint whif of tequila. As it warms, agave takes over the aroma, really nice. Pretty sweet, has a nice saison base, agave is noticeable, has a dry middle and finish, barrel is prominent on the finish, I taste lime and tequila, but maybe that is wishful thinking. Has great carbonation. Really cool beer, glad I bought a few.

Poured this fresh from a 32 oz growler. I really enjoyed this beer. Big green apple flavor up front, and a pleasant finish of tequila on the back end. A very unique beer, although I'd have to say it's something I'd only have one of in a sitting.
