Object Permanence began as a rich English-influenced Barleywine brewed with floor malted Pearl barley from the United Kingdom. To this base malt we added dark Munich, Honey and three levels of crystal malts to add rich caramel, toast and dark fruit flavors. This chewy base beer was then racked into freshly emptied bourbon barrels where it sat for over a year developing flavors of molasses, vanilla, bourbon and caramel. The added layer of oak leaves a perception of dryness to balance this big, malty finish.

this is barleywine for the most grizzled and hardened of barleywine drinkers, to whom which i would sheepishly nominate myself for consideration as a peer. its sturdy and huge, the kind of drink that quite literally does put hair on your chest. copper to even crimson in color, not a ton of head on it, but a nice luster and some wine-like legs on the edges of the glass. its layered up like a wedding cake in terms of its malt components, with notes of molasses, honey, maple, and brown sugar all apparent, here the sweet vanilla notes of the whiskey are apparent as well. i get bran muffin, honey granola, butterscotch, and toffee out of this, as earthy and grainy as it is candied and caramelized and concentrated. i get all of that in the flavor as well, the nose and taste mirror each other brilliantly. tons of bourbon on this in the latter stages, faint smoke, raisin, date, and a penny type of minerality to it, not weird but interesting. some robust english ale yeast patiently worked here too, its needed as a unifying element and it does its job admirably. there isnt a ton of carbonation but the beer isnt all that thick either for how flavorful it is. you have to like barleywine, and to want to have your night lit up a little bit, but this is up there with the very best examples of the style in the world. kane is blowing me away right now!

Another stellar barleywine from Kane. Plenty of caramel and molasses provide a sturdy base to showcase beautifully bountiful bourbon and subtler notes of raisins, dates, leather, vanilla, and gentle oak drying things out at the back end. There is also a subdued vinous quality at work here. Damn these guys make a fine barleywine.

Appearance - The beer poured a maroonish-brown color with only a few bubbles topping the pour.
Smell - The bourbon came to the front with dark fruits.
Taste - The bourbon made the first impression. It was followed by dark fruit, fruit, leather, and cherries. The profile was smooth with oak and vanilla hints. It moved toward the dry finish.
Mouthfeel - The low carbonation and thick body made for a slick body.
Overall - The beer was delightful.

Pours a murky dark brown with a finger of light tan head, decent retention for something with a 13%+ ABV. Aroma has lots of bourbon, vanilla, some oak, molasses, caramel, some dark fruits. The barrel aging has definitely overwhelmed the base beer, at least in the aroma. The base beer seems to come through a little more in the taste. I do get some vanilla and subtler bourbon notes but those are more in the background. I get lots of molasses, some caramel, toffee, and dark fruits. Some sweetness upfront but finish is relatively balanced. Full bodied, a little chewy, almost syrupy, moderate carbonation. Booze in the finish. Overall a tasty BBA barleywine, a good balance of flavors but this definitely leans on the bourbon.

Very good head production for the style, with a light tan, frothy, uneven cap for a deep purple-hued brown body.
What do you expect an English Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels for a full year to smell like? This. Exactly, precisely this. Tons of caramel malt, brown sugar, molasses, nuts, prunes, grapes, raisins, leather, tannin, bark, oak, bourbon, vanilla, all balanced with an assertive amount of grassy, herbal, piney, and slightly citrusy hops.
Smooth, malty, creamy, sweet on the palate. The big malt body provides a massive and flavorful start to the sip, before the bourbon starts crashing over the palate with waves and waves of syrupy sweetness. Caramel, toffee, and dark fruit at first; honey, brown sugar, syrup in the middle; nuts, molasses, and chocolate on the back third. So much going on in and around those flavors. Growing back end heat long after the swallow.
Thick, smooth, chewy; full bodied is an understatement. Obviously bold and assertive, but it really wears the 12% ABV proudly, as a regal cloak. It neither shies away from its boldness nor hits you over the heat with it.
Really a phenomenal beer. Barleywines may be one of the biggest, boldest, and most assertive styles, while also being one of the deepest, most rewarding, and perhaps least approachable. If you can take the time to really savor this brew and unlock its secrets, you will be handsomely rewarded.

Massive velvety beige head sits atop this dark, barely burgundy tinged beer. Nose hits with molasses, caramel and dates in near equal balance with maybe hints of vanilla in the background. Taste starts out just barely tart before moving into a toasted sugar with cherries taste. As this warms up the cherry moves a bit more to raisin as it’s joined in full force with the bourbon, offering a somewhat thin body and dry finish.
