Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Head High is our interpretation of an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is all about the hops; we use a blend of five different varieties all grown in the Pacific Northwest. A small charge of Chinook and Columbus early in the boil adds a smooth bitterness. A majority of the hops are then added late in the kettle or post-fermentation to produce a beer that is heavy on hop flavor and aroma. The combination of Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Columbus give Head High a noticeable grapefruit flavor with aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Our house American ale yeast ferments to a dry finish that accentuates the use of imported Pilsner and lightly kilned crystal malt resulting in Head High’s straw color and crisp flavor.

Served into a snifter at the Kane Brewery in Ocean, NJ.
A: Pours a hazy golden/amber orange with robust head formation and solid retention and solid lacing
S: Semisweet. Aromas of nectarine, apricot, and lemon citrus, as well as caramel malt.
T: Flavors predominantly citrus, particularly grapefruit and lemon with caramel malt. Bitterness contributes a light, refreshing finish.
M: Medium bodied and modest carbonation.
O: A very well constructed and enjoyable American IPA, more at the East Coast edge of the style.

16oz can from share. Golden body with small frothy white head. Citrusy hoppy aroma, some of the malts, meadow and hay. Taste also features some of the grains and malts, with a nice hop backbone.

One of my top 3 IPAs. Fragrant aroma, resiny, punchy citrusy hops.

Poured as a nice hazy orange color with a creamy white head on top. The smell is really impressive. Very hoppy! The taste has a nice fruity dank balance. The feel is smooth. Overall it’s a very good beer.

Pours a slightly hazy medium orange with a very well retained inch and a half white head that left lacing all the way down the glass. Smells of citrus fruits, floral elements and a hint of malt. Taste is grapefruit, lemon, lemon pith, nice malt presence and mild floral notes. Medium bodied and carbonated, light bitterness, clean and crisp.

One of, if not the, best beers brewed in New Jersey. When this beer is available on tap locally, I'm in heaven.
