Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Head High is our interpretation of an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is all about the hops; we use a blend of five different varieties all grown in the Pacific Northwest. A small charge of Chinook and Columbus early in the boil adds a smooth bitterness. A majority of the hops are then added late in the kettle or post-fermentation to produce a beer that is heavy on hop flavor and aroma. The combination of Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Columbus give Head High a noticeable grapefruit flavor with aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Our house American ale yeast ferments to a dry finish that accentuates the use of imported Pilsner and lightly kilned crystal malt resulting in Head High’s straw color and crisp flavor.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a snifter. Purchased at the brewery a few days ago. Packaged 2 weeks ago.

Pours a golden orange lightly hazy body with a frothy white head that leaves thick lacing.

Aromas are muted light piney, resinous hops with citrus and malt. On the tongue is piney, citrusy, zesty hops sitting on a caramel, pale malt backbone that's lightly sweet. Medium body with medium carbonation.

Decent IPA, not a fruity or citrus bomb with more on the piney, dank, resinous sid.e

This one pours a mostly clear rusted orange, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells pretty great, like the fruit at the bottom of a fruit cup, with dank grassiness, resinous pine, and grapefruit.

It's definitely cool to see East Coast breweries going back to the "well," so to speak, and making a more old school style of IPA. This is decidedly West Coast in nature, but still with a bit citrusy charge of orange marmalade and grapefruit zest. There's a solid gripping bitterness here, of grass and pine resin. The malt character doesn't show through all that strongly, just a bit of biscuity crunch, maybe.

This is light bodied, crisp and super clean, with a good level of carbonation, and a very high level of drinkability.

This is all that you really want in this style of IPA- I really dug this.

Hazy orange under an attractively thick, creamy head that leaves rings on the glass. Fragrant flowery citrus hop aromas...orange, tangerine, and faint earthy dankness. Soft, juicy grapefruit, pine resin, and tea leaves over a delicious biscuit malt base for some balance. Softly carbonated, medium-light bodied, crisp and dry in the finish. Damn, this one is growing on me. Not really what I expected, but a rock-solid borderline APA that leans more to the Classic side.

On tap at Cork City in Hoboken. Been waiting to have this after a few of the BAs been telling me about it. Cloudy gold look with a great aroma of citrusy hops. Taste continues with good hop back. Great IPA

-cloudy yellow-orange tap pour a1/2 cm foam cap. Mottled lacing paints the glass on draughts. The aroma is mild tangerine. The flavors include juicy orange-grapefruit hop notes and a welcome hop-bite. This is not a simple soft IPA. The mouthfeel is smooth. I'll look for this again.

Thanks goes out to thebeers for this brew.

16oz. Can
Canned On: 03/28/17

Poured into a Squatters true pint glass a cloudy dark golden orangy/yellow color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy two-finger plus white head, which also leaves some really nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is really nice, hoppy, some malts, citrusy (pineapple, grapefruit, orange, mango), diesel/dank like. The taste is really nice, hoppy, kinda malty, with a very nice touch of pineapple, grapefruit, orange, mango, very nice diesel/dank like. Medium body, a very nice complex/citrus brew, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a very tasty brew. My first from Kane Brewing Company. Definitely would like to try others from them. Glad to get a chance to try this one. Thanks Arthur!
