Poured into Kane tulip glass. It pours an orange-copper color, like apple cider, with one finger of khaki-colored head and lacing with good retention. It smells of sweet malt, apple sauce, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pepper. The taste follows the nose with tangy apple, cinnamon, and nutmeg, with a slightly sour, bitter finish. There are also hints of Belgian yeast, raisin and brown sugar. This ale is medium-bodied, moderately carbonated, and you can feel its 9.5% ABV. It's most definitely a sipper. Overall, it's a nice Autumn take on a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. It's not the type of ale you'd want to drink a lot of, but it's a very nice change of pace.

Pours a very dark and cloudy mahogany color with deep copper edges. Huge chunks floating around even with a delicate pour and not even 2/3 of the bottle decanted. Frothy two finger off-white head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention lasting for the duration. Large streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Way too dark and floaty but head retention and lacing are nice.

Sweet aroma with strong yeast presence, dark fruit esters, prominent cider character and delicate sweet malt presence. Kind of odd with zesty spice notes of ginger, black pepper and licorice. Cider character really stands out along with hints of plum, raisin, prune and other dark fruits. Sweet malts with caramel, light chocolate, dark bread and toffee. Needs more spice or roast to counter the alcohol and sweetness.

Medium body with a zesty/peppery spice presence integrated into the medicinal and dark fruit esters of the Belgian dark ale. Again, very sweet with strong cider, butternut squash and vinous fruit flavor. The medicinal syrupy quality is too strong. Black pepper, coriander, allspice, clove and licorice provides some balance but it needs some dark roast or smokiness. Sweet cider dominates the palate after adjusting to heavy spice. Bready yeast with dark fruit esters giving off hints of prune, raisins, plum, currant and blackberry. Boozy heat and more sweetness in finish. Decent spice presence but this beer is pretty one dimensional and way too sweet for my liking.

A friend picked me up 2 bottles while at the brewery - thanks Mark. Deep red color. Not my style beer but still fairly tasty. Not Kane's best offering but still enjoyable.

Bottle purchased Black Friday at brewery. Poured into Belgian ale glass.

L: Aggressive pour leads to big, foamy head with good retention and lacing. Beer is a very pretty ruby red.

S: Solid malts up front, cinnamon and apples faint but there.

T: Malt forward, some apple, a little bit of spice. Slight bitterness.

F: Quite drinkable, you don't easily notice the ABV at all. Decently balanced, lightly carbonated, medium-bodied.
