Tasting notes from last night at Cork City in Hoboken, NJ. Draft.

A: Opaque brown with a beige head that settles to a thin veil of foam. Some lacing.

S: Coffee, coffee, coffee.

T: Strong overtones of coffee. Modestly bitter. A hint of chocolate. Mocha. Some sweeter notes on the finish including vanilla, birch beer.

M: Round and smooth. Minimal carbonation.

D: Extremely drinkable at 9%. No hint of booze. One of the more coffee forward porters I've tasted. Absolutely delicious.

On tap at brewery, 3/6/16. Four ounce taster glass (hey, I gotta drive!)

L: One finger light tan head with what looked to be superior retention (I didn't wait on it much).

S: Roasted coffee, vanilla, cocoa, a dairy character (if that makes sense). Roasted malts.

T: Big coffee and cocoa up front, with dairy creaminess. Vanilla notes.

F: Very well balanced. Very light carbonation, medium bodied. ABV does enough to give a good dry finish, but no burn at all.

O: This is just really, really good. In terms of both creativity and execution, Kane has become the Hill Farmstead of New Jersey. Pure quality.

The aroma hits of creamy coffee, milk chocolate.

The flavor hits again of milk chocolate, medium roasted malt, more creaminess, a strong flavor of high quality coffee flavor throughout with some nuttiness and a roasty finish.

The use of coffee in this beer is incredible.

Another superb dark brew from Kane. While Carton's coffee line up is outstanding and Magnify is a true up n comer I believe Kane is clearly Jersey's top brewery. They have one of - if not the best IPA in Head High, Deep Rooted is a very underrated brew but its their dark beers that really set them apart and I haven't even had Sunday Brunch yet. This is a velvet smooth Porter with so much flavor going on. Slight boozy taste which is just right. Take your time and sip/enjoy this one. Great job everyone at Kane, Cheers !

Poured from a 32 ounce growler into a mini-snifter.

After a week-long journey from the east coast, I was nervous the carbonation would be gone, but this held up. There's a beautiful frothy, chewy khaki head, extensive lacing, and a thick film of lace that settles over the body. The body is black as coffee. 5

The coffee aroma is tremendous and hit my nose on the pour and wafts to my nose as I take these notes. Even from a distance I'm detecting sweet, milky caramel and chocolate and a coffee bean smell. The coffee has a bit of a roasted aroma and seems pretty stiff like I may get a jolt from this brew. Closer examination offers some spicy bean notes too. 4.25

Coffee is the dominant party here. Dark roasted-like flavors and some of the bitter flavor of coffee straight. Mid-palate brings creamier and sweeter elements, caramel, sweet milk and toffee before a lingering dark chocolate flavor on the finish. I keep noticing hints of funk, earthiness and dirty sock that come and go, that offer an interesting side to the beer. Not bad really, just different. 4

Excellent balance here. Roasted, sweet and creamy, and moderately bitter at the finish. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation a tad beneath that, reinforcing the creaminess. 4.25

This is good. Very good. I really enjoy it. I'm a bit torn on the taste as there are definitely occasional moments of intense earthiness, but otherwise this was great.

A wonderfully balanced strong, black coffee beer. The lactose sweetness counters the bitter coffee, which tastes like a dark roast, and then dry, cocoa rolls through. It's like a great dessert beer that's not too thick (like most). There's a little caramel sweetness that almost comes off like tart cherries when mixed with the coffee

Newest corked and caged from Kane Brewing, white label with in collaboration with Rook Coffee roasters and their logo on it as well. Really elegant bottle. Poured into a snifter straight from the fridge.

A: Pours a rather large head with an average pour. Uneven mocha head with some cheese holes throughout, jet black. Nice looking porter.

S: Cofee, coffee, coffee. Some dark chocolate and roasted malts. Exactly what you'd expect from a coffee porter. Really heavy on the coffee.

T: Coffee once again. About as coffee forward as I've ever tasted. Simply delicious. Love the fresh bean taste. Almost like you ran a porter through a french press.

M: Creamy. I think the lactate suits this nicely. Almost like the cream in the coffee.

O: If you have to, trade for it. Kane doesn't disappoint and this is no different.
