750ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass.

Pours a dark cola brown body, opaque and nearly black. One finger mocha head, short retention time, bits of lacing stubbornly sticks to the glass. Big roasted coffee aroma with a definite lactose sweetness behind it, but overall the coffee is the big player here. Milk chocolate, light roasted barley, touch of dark fruit. Flavour is a heavy cold brew-like coffee sweetness with a dollop of cream, roasted malt, milk chocolate and a bitter earthy finish. Mouthfeel is medium-lighter bodied, appropriate level of carbonation. Plenty of coffee on the finish. I've recently got into cold brews and this has a similar level of coffee flavour, which of course is a ton of it.

Got this one from Fahmie25 in a recent box. Thanks for the swap!

From a 750 into a snifter
Imperial Milk Porter with Sumatra dark roast coffee
Collaboration with rook coffee

APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, slightly foamy tan head with great retention. Clear black body with medium carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a thick foamy cap and clings to the glass as it fades. Faint wisp remains leaving some good lacing down the glass. Darker than you’d expect for a porter but that’s my bag.

SMELL: Lots of roasted coffee on the nose, with sweet cream, vanilla and milk chocolate as well. The lactose is definitely there. Roasted notes, with hints of caramel and butterscotch as well. Bold enough. Nice stuff.

TASTE: Lots of nice, creamy roasted coffee, sweet vanilla cream, butterscotch and milk chocolate up front. Flavorful for sure. More roasted coffee, cream and milk sugars at the swallow with a bold and lingering finish of roasted malts, milk chocolate, sweet vanilla and lactose, butterscotch, dark roasted coffee and a slight touch of alcohol as well. Some nice bitterness lingers as well. Really creamy and well balanced, with the coffee putting all the right notes in all the right places.

PALATE: Medium body and very creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a touch sticky. A slight scratch at the swallow and some bitterness lingers. Good stuff here.

OVERALL: This is an all-around quality imperial coffee porter. It looks more like stout and drinks more like one too, as it is generally more roasted and heavier than a 9% porter might be. Regardless, the coffee is done really well and ties everything together while the base milk porter has plenty of character of its own. Really good and well worth a shot if you find yourself with the chance. Thanks again Fahmie25. This was quality.

Look - Sits black in the glass. Nice two finger mocha colored head.
Smell - Straight fresh coffee grounds!!! Hints of a vanilla type sweetness as well
Taste - Amazing coffee flavor with some sweet cream/vanilla on the back end. Hard to tell this is even beer!
Feel - Smooth/silky. No hints of the 9.2% at all!

Overall - One of the best coffee porters you can drink!

A wonderfully balanced strong, black coffee beer. The lactose sweetness counters the bitter coffee, which tastes like a dark roast, and then dry, cocoa rolls through. It's like a great dessert beer that's not too thick (like most). There's a little caramel sweetness that almost comes off like tart cherries when mixed with the coffee

Another superb dark brew from Kane. While Carton's coffee line up is outstanding and Magnify is a true up n comer I believe Kane is clearly Jersey's top brewery. They have one of - if not the best IPA in Head High, Deep Rooted is a very underrated brew but its their dark beers that really set them apart and I haven't even had Sunday Brunch yet. This is a velvet smooth Porter with so much flavor going on. Slight boozy taste which is just right. Take your time and sip/enjoy this one. Great job everyone at Kane, Cheers !

On tap at brewery, 3/6/16. Four ounce taster glass (hey, I gotta drive!)

L: One finger light tan head with what looked to be superior retention (I didn't wait on it much).

S: Roasted coffee, vanilla, cocoa, a dairy character (if that makes sense). Roasted malts.

T: Big coffee and cocoa up front, with dairy creaminess. Vanilla notes.

F: Very well balanced. Very light carbonation, medium bodied. ABV does enough to give a good dry finish, but no burn at all.

O: This is just really, really good. In terms of both creativity and execution, Kane has become the Hill Farmstead of New Jersey. Pure quality.

Pitch black and opaque with the faintest of mahogany edges when held to a light source. One finger beige head that quickly settles into a thick, lasting cap. Decent retention with sporadic steaks and spots of soapy lace left behind.

Very inviting aroma with subtle smokey malt and deeply roasted coffee character. Gourmet espresso beans with subtle lactic cream, oatmeal, smoked malt, burnt toast and bitter dark chocolate countered by sweeter dark malt notes. Excellent coffee presence without being overly roasted or acrid smelling. Nicely balanced by bakers chocolate, caramel and toffee. The coffee presence in the nose is ridiculous!

Medium body with a decent blend of slightly smokey roasted malts and sweeter dark malt notes. Coffee flavor is nice but not as prominent or interesting as in the nose. A touch watery which isn't too surpassing for the style. A touch of smoke with hints of tobacco, oatmeal, dark chocolate and used coffee beans. Lighter roast and unfortunately less intense coffee flavor that I was expecting. Sweeter chocolate malts balancing things out with bakers chocolate, hazelnut, caramel and toffee. I'm disappointed in the coffee flavor but this is still a well balance and easy to drink porter with a well masked ABV.

Thanks again to Dave for picking this up for me from Kane. Appearance is dark black, thick consistency, with a medium beige head. Bigger bubbles stick at the sides if the glass, nice lacing in the middle. Aroma is all coffee, roasted beans, espresso like quality. Taste is also mostly coffee, and good coffee. I’ll have to arrange to check out Rook in the near future. Feel is light compared to how it looks. Light carbonation. Would go well with breakfast. Only knock is that strong coffee dominates the palate, not leaving much room for any other beer-like tastes and smells.

Wow is this a coffee bomb. I am not a coffee drinker but thought this beer was well done. Can hardly tell it is a beer. Alcohol is very well hidden. Smelled just like coffee straight out of a pot.

This is one of Kanes best offerings, which says a lot in itself. Review is off memory. The memorable part of this porter is the remarkable freshness the coffee taste brings. It's almost hard to tell this is a beer because of how remarkable the coffee is. Really excited for the next time this is bottled.

Yes, I'll be the first to admit that this beer is excellent. Here goes:

A: Pitch black with a creamy white head and fantastic lacing. Looks good.

S: Smells better. Lots of milk chocolate, delicious coffee (like a latte, however - none of those overly bitter roasted grains), lactose sugar, and caramel. Sufficiently nutty as well. Amazing.

T: Absolutely out-of-this-world good. Tastes like a latte - loaded with milk, cream and sugar. Delicious.

F: Thick and creamy.

O: Fantastic beer. Kane really outdid itself with this one.

Pours one shade shy of black with a loose, quarter inch, khaki-colored head. Big roasted coffee nose with dark chocolate notes. Taste is slightly vegetal coffee grounds, cocoa and char at the back. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin-bodied with a slightly assertive carbonation and a hint of acidity. Overall - meh. Smells better then it tastes.

Soooo much coffee. Incredible flavor, and absurdly drinkable at a shade over 9%. This was probably the best coffee beer I've had all year. It was the perfect dessert after an excellent meal of wood fired pizza and charcuterie.

Coffee. Absolute coffee nose, coffee flavors, and coffee vibe. Teetering with the edge of too much coffee. Luckily this lands just to the side of restraint. Solid porter beneath, and just enough residual sweetness to keep it from being overpowered by the java. You can tell that this was top notch coffee going in. Impressive, and unfortunately that don't fill growlers. The wife really loved it too.

Wow. This has all of the porter goodness. Ebony pour. Frothy tan head that stays about for a little bit. Coffee roast, some notes of chocolate, etc... But the mouthfeel is soo creamy. I've never had a porter like this. Very, very good.

From 04/17/15 notes. Had a small pour of this once but drank half a bottle, poured into a snifter.

Pours a deep dark brown color, almost black, with one finger of dark tan head and low to moderate carbonation evident.

Amazing nose, super coffee grinds-ish, dark chocolate, espresso, milk, cream, vanilla, roasted malts and coffee, and toasted malts. Coffee dominates and smells great.
Taste has more dark chocolate dark roasted malts, Burnt and toasted malts, chalk, and light cream. Coffee is there in the taste but much lighter. Medium body and low to moderate carbonation

Overall a very good coffee porter with an amazing nose. Taste is lighter but the nose is perfect. Definitely worth checking out, wish the taste had a little more to it.

Poured from a 32 ounce growler into a mini-snifter.

After a week-long journey from the east coast, I was nervous the carbonation would be gone, but this held up. There's a beautiful frothy, chewy khaki head, extensive lacing, and a thick film of lace that settles over the body. The body is black as coffee. 5

The coffee aroma is tremendous and hit my nose on the pour and wafts to my nose as I take these notes. Even from a distance I'm detecting sweet, milky caramel and chocolate and a coffee bean smell. The coffee has a bit of a roasted aroma and seems pretty stiff like I may get a jolt from this brew. Closer examination offers some spicy bean notes too. 4.25

Coffee is the dominant party here. Dark roasted-like flavors and some of the bitter flavor of coffee straight. Mid-palate brings creamier and sweeter elements, caramel, sweet milk and toffee before a lingering dark chocolate flavor on the finish. I keep noticing hints of funk, earthiness and dirty sock that come and go, that offer an interesting side to the beer. Not bad really, just different. 4

Excellent balance here. Roasted, sweet and creamy, and moderately bitter at the finish. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation a tad beneath that, reinforcing the creaminess. 4.25

This is good. Very good. I really enjoy it. I'm a bit torn on the taste as there are definitely occasional moments of intense earthiness, but otherwise this was great.

The aroma hits of creamy coffee, milk chocolate.

The flavor hits again of milk chocolate, medium roasted malt, more creaminess, a strong flavor of high quality coffee flavor throughout with some nuttiness and a roasty finish.

The use of coffee in this beer is incredible.

Bomber acquired via trade in late December. Drank, I dunno, maybe like five weeks later? Not too long.

Pours super dark with a nice white head. Smells... unnerving. Like coffee, but also like human urine. Seriously. Not trying to make a dumb joke or anything. That's just the most apt description: it smells the way it smells when you drink too much coffee and pee it out. Unpleasant.

Tastes... absolutely fine. Really good, actually. Up front, big nodes of bright and acidic coffee, moving into a medium-sweet middle that gets increasingly sweet as the coffee grounds flavor returns.

So... weird. My wife she says it don't smell good but it don't smell like pee.

I love this beer and am very glad it will be coming back each year. The bottled 2015 version is an absolute coffee bomb and I prefer it to the bottled 2013 version. Such a great American porter.

Appearance: Pours a fudge brown color with an impressive mocha head; excellent retention and plenty of lacing

Smell: Coffee dominant, with milk chocolate, black bread and roast underneath

Taste: Black bread, milk chocolate and some roast lead off, with the coffee building to dominance in the mid-palate; after the swallow, an espresso fruity bitterness kicks in and lingers into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A fine beer and among the top coffee beers I have consumed

Thanks, bbpro47, for the opportunity

Growler left in my fridge. Thanks Brad! Afternoon treat.

The beer is near black and opaque with a thin, oily beige cap. Aromas of rich coffee, espresso beans, chocolate, malt. Mocha and espresso character. Zesty carbonation and spritzy finish. Medium to full bodied. Roast and dark chocolates. Abv hidden well. This is potent stuff. Yummy.
